Job Title: Occupational and Physical Therapist

Reports To: Special Education Supervisor and/or Assistant Special Education Supervisor

Qualifications: Certified Licensed Occupational Therapist and Physical Therapist

Purpose Statement: To develop and implement an individualized therapy plan for students

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Evaluates the student’s ability through a variety of functional, behavioral, and standardized assessments, skilled observation, checklists, histories, and interviews

Provides a comprehensive written report which reflects strengths and barriers to student participation in the educational environment; directs program development; and guides evidence-based intervention

Develops occupationally based intervention plans based on student needs and evaluation results

Participates in IEP meetings to review evaluation results, and offer recommendations, and develop individual education plans and intervention plans to achieve IEP goals

Provides targeted, evidence-based therapeutic intervention to facilitate student participation and occupational performance within the school environment

Consults with the school-based team to achieve student outcomes

Adapts and modifies the environment including assistive technology and training instructional staff to meet individual needs and to help students function as independently as possible

Monitors and reassess the effects of occupational therapy intervention and the need to continue, modify, or discontinue intervention

Documents occupational therapy services to ensure accountability of service provision

Provides staff development for assistants who work one on one with students

Regular and predictable attendance is a core requirement of this position. Regular, effective interpersonal communication with team members and stakeholders is required.

Other duties as assigned to ensure the success of Hawkins County Schools and safety of all students and staff.

Capacity and Ability Requirements: The usual job demands require the following physical requirements: some lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, and physical dexterity. In addition, a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive from a designated location to various schools and BOE facilities is required.

Terms of Employment: Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the district’s approved compensation plan. The length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the district.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Hawkins County School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
