Responsibilities
Conduct evaluations and design effective treatment plans for disabled students as defined by WAC 392-172A and properly identified according to district procedures.
Assist in the identification of students in need of occupational therapy through screening and evaluations.
Evaluate and treat individual children to develop actions in performance skills. The occupational therapist deals with both physical and social development and is concerned with childrens ability to accomplish tasks related to their developmental progress.
Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team in designing and implementing effective treatment programs as determined by the students individual educational plan.
Relate the educational significance of occupational therapy treatments toward assisting in the students fullest potential and educational growth.
Plan and implement an occupational therapy program for identified children to achieve necessary goals within the educational setting.
Develop, implement, and evaluate IEPs that focus on assessment data and evaluated student progress using a data based decision-making model.
Provide consultation and advisory services to the childs family, health care agencies, and community organizations as needed.
Consult with the students physician concerning the students occupational therapy program.
Consult, instruct, and monitor the student, family, and other educational staff in occupational therapy procedures as needed.
Maintain appropriate written records and reports for each child served and/or assessed.
Participate in ordering new supplies, manage the equipment, and adopt repairs as necessary for functional operation of said equipment.
Participate in continuing education to ensure continued professional growth, awareness, and development.
Maintain professional knowledge and expertise; attend, participate and implement district level program requirements of IDEA, NCLD, and Statewide Assessment requirements.
Perform other job-related duties as requested from supervisor.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in occupational therapy from an accredited school of occupational therapy.
Registration as an occupational therapist with the American Occupational Therapy Association.
Certified or eligible for Washington State certification as an educational staff associate endorsed for occupational therapy.
Related experience or a minimum of a pediatric affiliation with a strong interest in pediatrics is required.
Additional education in occupational therapy, theory, and methods in current usage with disabled children desirable.
Demonstrated knowledge of the essential requirements within IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and its application to the provision of compliant services for the disabled.
Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with a diverse group of parents, teachers, and administrators in providing direct and indirect services to disabled students in a confidential manner.
Ability to express thoughts concisely and effectively.
Demonstrates ability to communicate clearly in written or oral form.
Flexible in learning new concepts, cooperates with others, and adapts to a variety of assignments and conditions.
Enthusiastic and displays an overall optimism in motivating toward teaching and student learning.
Assesses needs of students, prescribes and implements effective lessons to meet those needs through the use of appropriate and current instructional strategies based on best practices.
Conducts self in a professional manner through interactions with students and adults, high expectations for student performance, is compassionate but firm when modeling appropriate behavior, and selects appropriate attire.
Relates positively to students and adults from varying socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic background, learning styles, and various disabilities.
Maintains a high level of professional expertise and emerging research related to this position.

Work Schedule - Days and hours (listed above) are subject to change depending on program and district needs.
Stipends, Leave Accruals and Holidays - Stipends, leaves and paid holidays are in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement (Collective Bargaining Agreements) as negotiated.

School District Employees participate in the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) public pension plan. Employees can choose from a lifetime retirement pension plan or a hybrid pension and investment plan that contributes between 5% and 15% of wages to retirement. When employees meet plan requirements and retire, they are guaranteed a monthly benefit for the rest of their life from the employer-funded pension.
Employees can also participate in voluntary savings programs to increase retirement savings such as the DRS Deferred Compensation Program or by participating in a 403(b)-retirement plan through the district's plan manager, OMNI.
