Position Overview:
This role involves assessing and treating patients who may have physical, emotional, cognitive, or psychosocial challenges.
Key Responsibilities and Qualifications:
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Evaluate the patient’s capacity to safely and effectively carry out daily living activities. Develop a tailored care plan that specifies the type and frequency of treatment.
- Execute the treatment plan utilizing suitable methods. Record patient progress and adjust the care plan as necessary, seeking advice when required.
- Inform the patient and their family or caregiver about the patient’s challenges. Assist with the discharge process from therapy services and provide guidance on the appropriate use of adaptive equipment and support programs.
- Supervise the care provided by designated personnel in accordance with established regulations and professional standards.
- Maintain a state of alertness and ensure safety at all times.
- Carry out additional tasks as assigned.
EDUCATION
- A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy or a related field, as required for licensure in the state of practice.
EXPERIENCE
- No prior experience is necessary.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Continuous standing.
- Regular lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling of objects weighing between 0-25 lbs.
- Frequent use of hearing and speech for effective oral communication.
- Regular auditory skills to detect body sounds and alarms, as well as malfunctioning equipment.
- Consistent visual acuity for both near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) distances.
- Frequent walking, reaching, gripping, and data entry tasks.
- Occasional bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, sitting, squatting, twisting, and repetitive movements of the legs and arms.
- Occasional lifting and moving of patients, as well as objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
- Occasional driving and visual tasks to assess distances and spatial relationships.
- Rare crawling.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Resuscitation Certification: Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) certification is required within 90 days of employment. Additional resuscitation certifications may be necessary based on departmental needs.
State Licensure:
- Illinois: Occupational Therapist - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
- Missouri: Occupational Therapist - Missouri Division of Professional Registration
- Oklahoma: Occupational Therapist - Oklahoma Medical Board
- Wisconsin: Occupational Therapist (OT) - Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services
