UNC Hospitals Rehabilitation Services is accepting applications for a full-time Acute Care Occupational Therapist Assistant position. Supporting our Enhanced Rehabilitation program in the acute hospital setting, the OTA will provide skilled therapeutic interventions to a diverse patient population with varying acuity levels. This person will collaborate directly with the interdisciplinary team to provide exceptional patient-centered care.

The selected candidate will serve as a stakeholder, assisting in the implementation and sustainment of unit-based care team models to optimize patient care outcomes and best practices. Excellent time management and communication skills are required for this fast-paced environment; clinical experience in acute care is strongly preferred. Summary Performs a wide variety of skilled occupational therapy treatments for patients based upon the occupational therapy evaluations and goals completed by the occupational therapist. Advances the patients treatment plan in response to the patients progress. Assists with discharge planning.

Responsibilities

1. Contributes to various interdisciplinary team meetings to plan for patient needs, discuss family education plans, and discharge plans.
2. Documents patient treatment and progress toward goals in the medical record.
3. Completes department records for team communication, billing, and statistics.
4. Instructs occupational therapy and occupational therapist assistant students.
5. Precepts occupational therapist assistants and evaluates the learners competency per department guidelines.
6. Provides skilled occupational therapy treatments to a wide variety of patients.
7. Designs activities or exercises to meet OT goals.
8. Fabricates a wide range of splints.
9. Teaches patients techniques and use of adaptive equipment to increase independence in activities of daily living.
10. Uses group techniques to facilitate therapeutic groups to reach a variety of OT goals.
11. Instructs patient and family in home techniques for discharge.
12. Participation - Contributes to quality of clinical services through attendance and participation in departmental meetings and in-services.
13. Quality-Contributes to quality of clinical services through maintenance of valid & reliable records of patient procedures & progress.
14. Participates in quality improvement initiatives with the clinical specialist and other healthcare professionals.
15. Participates in continuous quality improvement efforts in conjunction with the department director.

Other Information

Education Requirements: Graduation from an accredited two-year Occupational Therapy Assistant program.

Licensure/Certification Requirements: Licensed as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in the state of North Carolina.

Professional Experience Requirements: No prior experience required.
