Job Description
DEFINITION
To assist an Occupational Therapist in administering occupational therapy services in grades preschool through 12 for physically, developmentally, mentally, or emotionally disturbed students.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Special Education Director.
Exercises no supervision.
Examples of Duties
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provides occupational therapy services to students under the direction of the Occupational Therapist. Implements goals developed by the Occupational Therapist. Monitors students to ensure activities are performed correctly. Records observations of student progress for use by the Occupational Therapist. Prepares materials and assembles equipment used during treatment. Performs a variety of clerical activities related to the work, such as record keeping, assisting in report preparation, and phone and other communication with persons involved in therapy services. Attends a variety of meetings and conferences, as required, including Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings. Uses personal transportation for incidental travel. Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience and Education/Training (These are the minimum experience and education/training standards which will be used to admit or reject applicants for examination, as approved August 23, 2000.)
Experience providing therapy as an Occupational Therapist Assistant in a pediatric clinical/ educational setting.
AND
Associate degree from an accredited university with major course work in Occupational Therapy.
Licenses/Certificates/Registrations
Current Occupational Therapy Assistant certification.
A current American Red Cross CPR certification which includes children and adults.
An appropriate, valid California drivers license and auto liability insurance.*

ADDITIONAL SALARY INFORMATION: This is a non-exempt position, Regular Classified Salary Range 50. Most positions in this class work 8hours/10months. The probationary period for employees in this classification is six (6) months (or 130 working days of paid service).

THE EXAMINATION:
Training and Experience Evaluation. WEIGHT: 100%
Only qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the examination process.
Successful candidates who pass all parts of the examination process will be placed on the eligibility list in order of their relative merit.
Candidates will be notified in accordance with the Personnel Commission Rules.
This eligibility list will be active for a period of (1) year.
