About the Role

Utah is one of the fastest-growing innovation economies in the country, and most of what's happening here never gets told. We're looking for a content creator who can get out into the field, find the stories, and tell them in a way that actually lands on social media.

This isn't a desk job. You'll be at events, talking to founders, researchers, and policymakers, and turning what you find into content that builds Utah's reputation as a place where things get built.

You'll work directly with the Nucleus Institute CEO, who also serves as Commissioner of the Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED). This gives you a direct line into the state's top innovation initiatives and priorities, and a front-row seat to how they unfold.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

  • Attend events across the state (launches, summits, demo days, university research showcases, policy briefings) and create real-time content
  • Identify emerging companies, research breakthroughs, and policy developments worth covering
  • Produce short-form video, photo, and written content for platforms like Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and X
  • Help shape an ongoing content calendar and pitch story ideas
  • Work in collaboration with the Startup State initiative and the Utah Elevated/Convergence initiative at GOED
  • Track engagement and adjust content strategy based on what's working

What You Bring

  • A strong social media portfolio with a track record of driving real engagement (not just posting)
  • Comfort shooting and editing short-form video on a phone
  • Curiosity about Utah's tech, research, and policy landscape
  • Ability to work independently, show up to events, and turn raw moments into compelling content fast
  • Strong writing skills and a good eye for what makes a story worth sharing

Logistics

  • Flexible hours based on your availability and event schedule, up to 20 hours/week
  • Some evening and occasional weekend availability needed for events
  • Reliable transportation to attend events around the state

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, or equivalency
  • Currently enrolled in a Utah institution of higher education.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to analyze complex information and present it clearly and concisely.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive, self-driven, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with research databases and tools.
