    Office and Operations Manager

    Electrical Specialists | Topeka, Kansas

Help build the systems, team, and operations behind a growing residential electrical service company.

Start by taking ownership of the office, with the opportunity to grow into broader operational leadership.

    At a Glance

Position: Full-time | Office and Operations Manager

    Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.; no nights or weekends

Compensation: $50,000–$75,000 annually, based on experience, with performance-based bonus opportunities

Why You Will Love Working Here

Electrical Specialists is a locally owned, family-run company specializing in residential electrical service in Topeka and the surrounding area.

We take care of families, stand behind our work, and develop people who want to build great careers.

We are growing, and there is still work to do to make our operation more consistent.

If you enjoy organizing, solving problems, and turning ideas into processes that work, you can make a visible difference here.

You will work closely with the owner and our professional coaching organization.

Proven systems, training, and resources are already available.

We need someone who will learn them, adapt them to our business, implement them, and make sure they stick.

    What We Offer

    • Competitive salary and performance-based bonus opportunities
    • Monday–Friday schedule with no nights or weekends
    • Health insurance, paid holidays, and PTO
    • SIMPLE IRA with company match
    • Gym membership reimbursement
    • Company-provided equipment
    • Professional development, management training, and access to business coaching resources
    • Direct access to the owner and significant autonomy within your responsibilities
    • A voice in how we operate and opportunities for advancement as the company grows

    What You Will Do

Your first priority will be bringing consistency, organization, and accountability to daily office operations.

You will connect the owner, office team, field employees, customers, and outside partners.

Responsibilities will transfer progressively as you learn the business.

    Own daily office operations

Oversee scheduling, dispatch, customer communication, administrative processes, and workflow.

Help keep billing, collections, and open customer issues moving so jobs and commitments do not fall through the cracks.

Lead and support the office team

    Provide direction, coaching, and accountability.

Establish daily and weekly routines, clarify responsibilities, and support employee check-ins and development.

Keep the office and field connected

Ensure technicians, office staff, and leadership have the information they need.

Resolve communication gaps and coordinate issues that require management attention.

    Monitor business performance

Maintain dashboards and scorecards, review key performance indicators, identify trends, and bring concerns to leadership with possible solutions.

    Build accountability and follow-through

Track open issues, assign ownership, follow up on deadlines, and monitor compliance with standard operating procedures.

Address missed commitments respectfully and consistently.

    Support recruiting and employee development

Coordinate recruiting, interviews, onboarding, training completion, and other people-related processes as the team grows.

    Implement and improve systems

Work with the owner to prioritize bottlenecks.

Learn our coaching systems, document and deploy SOPs, and improve recurring processes.

Coordinate with outsourced accounting, payroll, marketing, and other partners; accounting and payroll processing remain outsourced.

    Grow into broader leadership

This role starts with hands-on office responsibilities.

As the business grows and you demonstrate readiness, it can develop into an Operations Manager or General Manager role with broader responsibility.

You Will Thrive Here If You

    • Notice where work gets stuck and take initiative to improve it
    • Organize multiple priorities and follow through without repeated reminders
    • Hold people accountable while treating them with respect
    • Communicate well with office staff, tradespeople, customers, and leadership
    • Turn ideas into practical processes and checklists
    • Use numbers to recognize when something needs attention
    • Bring problems forward with possible solutions
    • Ask questions, learn quickly, and take responsibility for your progress

This Role Probably Is Not for You If

We want candidates to understand the realities of a growing small business.

Priorities will change, some processes need to be built, and we will occasionally figure things out along the way.

    • You need constant direction or micromanagement
    • You need every day to be predictable and responsibilities to stay fixed
    • You avoid difficult conversations or holding others accountable
    • You prefer pointing out problems without helping solve them
    • You are uncomfortable working with both office and field employees

    What You Will Bring

    Required

    • Strong organizational and time-management skills
    • Experience coordinating people, schedules, projects, customers, or business operations
    • Clear written and verbal communication
    • Confidence working with different personalities and holding others accountable
    • Ability to prioritize and work independently
    • Comfort learning software, dashboards, reporting systems, and new processes
    • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and follow-through
    • Professional judgment and discretion

    Preferred

    • Office management, operations, supervisory, or team-lead experience
    • Experience in home services, construction, skilled trades, or another service business
    • Familiarity with scheduling, dispatch, work orders, invoicing, or field-service operations
    • Experience creating or implementing SOPs
    • Recruiting, onboarding, or employee-development experience
    • Experience reviewing KPIs or operational reports
    • Marketing coordination experience

Experience matters, but so do aptitude, attitude, ownership, and potential.

If you have organized people and improved processes in another industry, we would like to hear how those skills could translate here.

    What Success Looks Like

Six months into the position, success means:

    • The office operates consistently with less day-to-day owner involvement
    • Office and field employees communicate effectively
    • Scheduling, dispatch, customer issues, and administrative work have clear ownership
    • Important tasks and commitments receive consistent follow-up
    • KPIs and operational priorities are reviewed regularly
    • Employees understand expectations and receive support and accountability
    • Key processes are documented and followed
    • The owner has more time to lead the field, train technicians, serve customers, and grow the company
    • You anticipate what the business needs next rather than only reacting to immediate problems

    Your First 90 Days

You will have support while learning the business.

We will introduce responsibilities in stages rather than expect you to know everything on Day One.

    First 30 Days: Learn

Understand our people, culture, customers, software, coaching systems, and existing SOPs.

Follow jobs from the first call through completion, learn scheduling and dispatch, review KPIs, and identify where responsibilities and bottlenecks currently sit.

Observe and ask questions before making changes.

    Days 31 to 60: Own

Begin assuming responsibility for daily office operations, scheduling and workflow oversight, team accountability, customer escalations, KPI review, and issue tracking.

Strengthen communication with the field and owner, and coordinate recruiting and onboarding as needed.

    Days 61 to 90: Improve

Establish a consistent operating rhythm and implement agreed priorities.

Identify recurring problems, recommend solutions, and build or improve SOPs.

We want you increasingly able to explain what is getting stuck, propose what to do, and follow through on the solution.

The goal is steady progress toward independent ownership.

    Why Electrical Specialists

Our approach is straightforward: specialize in residential service, take care of families, do the work right, and stand behind it.

We value humility, a desire to grow, and a team-first mindset.

Accountability should help people succeed, and systems should make their work easier.

This is an opportunity to help shape the next stage of a local company while developing your own leadership career.

Ready to Build Something With Us

If this sounds challenging in a way that excites you, we would like to meet you—even if you do not check every preferred box or are already doing well in another job.

Tell us what caught your attention and about a time you took ownership of a problem, improved a process, and made it work without constant supervision.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to protected status under applicable law.
