Office-Clinic Assistant

Primary Purpose
The primary purpose of this position is to provide general office assistance and first aid/
medical care to students. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate electronic and hard
copy records; assisting visitors to the school office; answering telephone; preparing various
reports, communicating with students, staff, and parents, and supervising students during non-
classroom time.
Minimum Qualifications
18 years of age
High school diploma or equivalent
Demonstrated effective oral and written communication in the English language,
including correct grammar and spelling usage.
Background check through Washington State Patrol, as required by RCW 43.43.830.

Valid and current first aid/CPR/AED card

Essential Functions
The list of essential functions in this job description is not exhaustive and may be supplemented
as determined by an appropriate administrator and Human Resources.
Provide first aid and medical care to ill or injured students; contact parents and arrange
for transportation as necessary; supervise student medications as authorized by school
nurse. Under the direction of the school nurse: assist with health screenings; maintain
medical records; carryout individual emergency care plans; maintain immunization
compliance; report communicable diseases to the appropriate authority; report
absences due to influenza to King County Health Department.
Maintain student attendance records; verify absences through parent phone calls, post
absence information into electronic database; prepare letters required by state law
regarding student attendance (BECCA Bill).
Maintain student records. Request records of newly enrolled students from previous
school attended; request special education records as appropriate; maintain required

and optional documents in the student files; for withdrawing students, forward records
to new school; maintain confidential files and request documents as required; update
student database as needed.
Provide office coverage as needed. Answer phones; route callers to appropriate staff
members; greet and assist office visitors; assist in overseeing behavior of students in the
office.
Assist Office Manager with clerical tasks in support of the Principal and main office,
including but not limited to; typing letters; proofreading, duplicating, and/or distributing
materials; receiving, opening and sorting mail.
Prepare materials for teachers as requested; prepare bulletin board displays; duplicate
and distribute materials.
Record and communicate the daily lunch order count to Nutrition Services.
Manage student behavior on the playground, in the lunchroom, in the gymnasium, to
and from classes, In School Suspension, and in the locker room. May accompany
students throughout the school premises.
Act as crossing guard and/or bus loader.
Assist with student registration process.
Receive and receipt payments for various school-related activities.
Coordinate use of building facilities.
Coordinate state-mandated testing activities.
Serve as backup to Office Manager position.
Maintain regular attendance.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, students,
parents and community members.
Comply with all Board policies, rules, procedures and collective bargaining agreements.
Other duties as assigned.

attend to the physical needs of the students.
Demonstrated ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Demonstrated ability to carry up to 30 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds
regularly.

Working Conditions
The daily work is performed in an office setting and at various locations on the school premises,
including the school playground. The job incumbent is frequently required to: visually
concentrate on detail; be confined to work station; be exposed to interruptions; be dexterous
and/or precise; wear protective gear or clothing; and deal with bodily fluids. The incumbent is
sometimes required to: stand for prolonged periods; lift or carry heavy objects or individuals;
be exposed to infectious diseases; physically restrain students; be exposed to high noise levels;
and deal with distraught, angry or hostile individuals. The usual and customary methods of
performing the job functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting,
carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and
significant fine motor dexterity. Generally, the job requires 70% sitting, 15% walking and 15%
standing. The job is performed under a generally hazard free environment and job activities
may vary.
