About the Position
This is non-state service x-16 position. This position serves as the head of the Office of Geology and Energy Resources within the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality. This position is accountable for planning, organizing, budgeting, allocating resources for moderate to complex projects and reviewing assigned geological resources functions and staff. The primary focus of the position is on the management of other managerial and/or supervisory staff. Incumbents at this level have managerial and technical accountability for the overall results of the assigned organizational units. Accountable for developing plans for the assigned organizational units and for delegating the achievements of objectives to the relevant teams. Identifies, allocates, reorganizes and provides necessary resources to achieve organizational objectives. Manages and engages in effective people management activities such as recruitment, training, development, and performance managements.
What youll need to be Successful
A successful candidate for this position should have experience related to geological mapping, digital mapping, mineral resources and other necessary functions of the state geological survey. A successful candidate should also have experience related to budgeting, grants (including federal grants), personnel management, and strategic planning.
Preferred Qualifications
Environmental Engineer Manager: Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer from the Mississippi State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, 5+ years of experience in engineering as a registered Professional Engineer, and 3+ years of supervisory experience. Geologist Manager: Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant Geological discipline, registration as a Registered Professional Geologist (RPG) by the Mississippi State Board of Registered Professional Geologists, and 10+ years of experience.

Paid Personal Leave and Sick Leave
Full-time employees receive paid time off for personal needs and for sick leave. Leave begins accruing after one month of employment and may be used as it is accrued. Employees earn approximately 18 days of personal leave annually and 12 days of sick leave annually.

In accordance with federal law, all employees serving in the armed forces or the military reserves are entitled to 15 days per year for military training.
