Job Title

On-Demand Dog Walker

Company Overview

Pawsitive Dawg Walking and Pet Sitting is a Waltham, Massachusetts-based pet care company focused on force-free, fear-free care for dogs and cats. We provide solo dog walks and work with one family at a time so every pet receives individualized attention in a calm, safe, and supportive environment. Established in 2012, we are committed to compassionate care for animals and dependable service for pet owners.

The Opportunity

This is an ideal role for someone who wants flexible, on-demand pet care work built around their own schedule. The only required commitment is at least one hour of availability per weekday between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Beyond that, you can offer more availability if you want more opportunities. The more midday availability you provide, the more visits we may be able to assign and the higher priority you may receive when scheduling visits. This role is especially well suited for someone who wants meaningful work with animals without committing to a fixed full shift.

This is a true on-demand position. Some visits may be offered last minute, and new team members may not have a full schedule right away. As client demand builds and as we learn your availability and reliability, visit volume can grow over time.

What You'll Do

  • Provide solo dog walks and pet care visits with calm, attentive, individualized care.
  • Complete assigned midday visits reliably during the availability windows you commit to.
  • Accept and respond to some last-minute visit opportunities when available.
  • Safely handle dogs of different sizes, energy levels, and temperaments while maintaining high standards of care.
  • Communicate clearly through the scheduling app with visit notes, updates, and photos for clients and the team.
  • Manage your own availability and accept work based on the schedule you choose to offer.

What Success Looks Like

  • Within the first few weeks, you are consistently completing assigned visits on time and following care instructions accurately.
  • Clients receive dependable communication, thoughtful updates, and confidence that their pets are in good hands.
  • Pets in your care are safe, comfortable, and well-managed during each visit.
  • You become someone the team can count on for midday coverage, including occasional last-minute needs.
  • Over time, you increase your opportunities for assignments by being reliable, responsive, and available for more visits when needed.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with dogs and cats and wants a flexible role built around their schedule. The strongest candidates are dependable, organized, compassionate, and comfortable working independently.

You should also bring:

  • At least 2 years of hands-on animal care experience, whether personal, volunteer, or professional
  • Confidence handling both large and small dogs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfort using a smartphone, GPS, and scheduling software
  • A reliable vehicle, valid driver's license, and auto insurance
  • Ability to walk up to 6 miles per day and lift approximately 40 to 50 pounds when needed
  • Availability for at least one hour per weekday between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
  • Openness to occasional last-minute visit requests
  • A clean criminal background and driving record
  • Four references, including 3 professional and 1 personal

Compensation and Benefits

Pay is $18.00 per hour, plus mileage reimbursement, a cell phone stipend, and 100% of tips. This is a W-2 employee position, not an independent contractor role.

Benefits include paid training, cell phone stipend, mileage reimbursement, paid sick time, paid time off after 12 months of employment, Simple IRA for employees earning over $5,000 annually, direct deposit, and bonding and liability insurance coverage. Additional earnings may be available through extra visits, pet sitting, overnights, and weekend work.

Work Location / Schedule

This role is based in the Waltham, Massachusetts service area, including Waltham, Belmont, Watertown, and parts of Newton, Lexington, Weston, and Lincoln. Work is on-site and travel between client homes is required.

This is an on-demand, flexible position built around your availability. The minimum commitment is one hour per weekday between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. You can offer more availability within that window, and team members with broader availability may receive more visits and stronger assignment preference. Some visits may be assigned last minute. New hires may start with a lighter volume of visits, with more opportunities becoming available over time based on client demand, performance, and availability.

How to Apply

If you are a dependable animal lover looking for flexible, meaningful work with a compassionate pet care team, we encourage you to apply.
