Description
We are seeking an IT generalist / network technician to provide hands-on support for their downtown office. The office recently relocated and the IT closets were moved but are not being actively maintained. The environment is currently functional, but needs a structured assessment, cleanup, documentation, and ongoing monthly care.
This is a great fit for someone who is local, self-directed, and comfortable coordinating directly with vendors and handling light on-site troubleshooting and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
Phase 1: Discovery / Site Assessment (up to 1 full day)
Perform an on-site assessment of the office IT setup, including two IT closet areas
Build an inventory of network gear and connections (rack/patching/cabling)
Create rack elevations / documentation (what's installed, where, and how it's connected)
Identify gaps in patching, updates, labeling, organization, and physical security
Evaluate whether to consolidate to a single MDF/closet setup for maintainability
Partner with client + vendors to define the initial remediation plan and effort estimate Phase 2: Ongoing Monthly Support (~10 hrs/month)
Provide recurring on-site support (a few hours/week as needed)
Perform routine network health checks, patching, and basic maintenance
Serve as on-site point person for vendor coordination (ex: ISP vendors, alarm/building vendor)
Assist with restoring/maintaining connectivity needed for the alarm system (connectivity enablement)
Provide light on-call support for "disaster scenarios (expected to be infrequent)
Technical Environment (Known):
FortiGate firewalls + FortiSwitches
Meraki wireless access points
ISP: Crown Castle
Small UPS presence (may need review/monitoring)
No major server footprint expected on-site
Required Skills:
Strong hands-on experience with LAN/WAN networking and troubleshooting
Experience working in network closets: patching, cabling basics, labeling, documenting
Familiarity with wireless/Wi-Fi troubleshooting (Meraki strongly preferred)
Comfort supporting / working around Fortinet (FortiGate/FortiSwitch) environments
