Summary

A registered pharmacy technician is someone other than a licensed pharmacist or pharmacy intern that performs pharmacy tasks and duties as delegated by a licensed pharmacist that do not fall within the purview of Florida Statute 465.00313. All such delegated acts will be performed under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist who is responsible for all such acts performed by persons under their supervision as outlined in Florida Statute 465.014.

These supervised tasks and duties include but are not limited to:

• Initiating or receiving communications with patient providers and/or team members to facilitate patient care • Assisting in patient appointment review • Medical records review • Insurance authorization review • Processing of prescriptions, including investigational/medications utilized in clinical trials in compliance with policies and procedures set forth by the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines • Medications associated with Risk Evaluation Mitigation Strategies (REMS)

The Registered Pharmacy Technician may also assist with compounding, preparation, and distribution of pharmaceutical and investigational medications following USP standards and hospital policy. Inventory stewardship involves maintaining records and creating reports required by law and processing of documents required by the hospital.

Ideal Candidate

Ideal candidates will have:

• An Associates Degree in Pharmacy Management, Business, Medical Assisting, Communication, Health Information Technology, or Accounting and Finance • Graduated from an accredited Pharmacy Technician training program or have experience that qualifies them for licensure as outlined in Florida Statutes Section 465.014 • Be a Registered Pharmacy Technician

Responsibilities

Responsibilities not a complete list include:

• Medication Order Processing: Be able to transcribe medication orders into a computerized medical record system, ensuring all information is complete as required by protocol and policy. • Fulfilling Medication Orders: Fill medication orders in the proper order of priority, accurately counted with neat and accurate labels affixed to the preparation. • Non-sterile and Sterile Compounding: Prepare parenteral dosage forms utilizing aseptic techniques in accordance with departmental policies, standards set forth in current USP, state, and federal regulations, and GCP guidelines for investigational medications. • Delivery of Medications: Prepare and deliver medication, ensuring proper storage location requirements are met based on the stability needs of the product. • Quality Assurance: Perform routine quality assurance tasks, including checking extemporaneously manufactured medications, commercially available medications, I.V. solutions, and equipment for expiration dates, recalls, or signs of deterioration. • Inventory Management: Receive medication and supplies in accordance with inventory control and purchasing policies, helping to maintain all medication inventory levels within the predetermined stocking level, calling attention to needs for revision or perpetual supply problems.

Credentials & Qualifications

Credentials & Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED • Must have graduated from an accredited Pharmacy Technician training program or have experience that qualifies them for licensure as outlined in Florida Statutes Section 465.014 • Be a Registered Pharmacy Technician • 2 years as a Registered Pharmacy Technician RPhT with a minimum of 2 years experience of each of: • Unit dose Pharmacy orders and inventory computer systems and/or Investigational or REMS medication management and pharmacy automation software systems, equipment, and electronic health records (EHR) • Preparation of sterile intravenous medications, which may include hazardous and/or investigational medications used for the treatment of cancer, with a competent understanding of current USP clean room practices and GCP guidelines and/or inventory management of investigational, controlled, and specialty medications
