Curious what makes an online course actually work well for students? Interested in figuring out what helps people stay engaged, motivated, and successful when they're learning outside a traditional classroom? If you're into education, communication, instructional design, digital media, accessibility, or online learning, this internship is for you.

As part of SUNY Cortland's Online Readiness Program, the Online Education Intern will work with the Senior Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning to design student-facing resources that support success in online courses.

You'll receive training in basic instructional design principles, online education best practices, and student-centered resource development. You'll help the CTL better understand what students need to feel prepared for online learning, and use that research to create practical resources for the campus community.

Responsibilities may include:

1. Participate in training related to instructional design, online education, student success, and accessibility.

2. Gather student perspectives through surveys, interviews, or informal feedback about what helps students succeed in online courses.

3. Review online education resources for students from other SUNY institutions and identify models that could inform SUNY Cortland's approach.

4. Work with the Senior Director to develop student-facing materials for the Online Learning website, such as short videos, web content, checklists, guides, or frequently asked questions.

5. Collaborate with CTL staff and other interns to share and promote completed resources.

By the end of the internship, you'll be able to conduct a basic needs assessment, evaluate educational resources for usability and relevance, apply instructional design principles to student-facing materials, and produce digital resources that support student success in online learning environments.

Required Qualifications

Must be SUNY Cortland Student

Basic computer/writing proficiency

Interest in education, communication, instructional design, digital media, accessibility, or online learning

This is an internship, so you must be enrolled for 3 hours and collaborate with a faculty member to receive internship credit.

Preferred Qualifications

Interest in online or digital learning environments

Experience with video creation

Strong writing and communication skills

Online Learning Experience (took an online course)

Physical Demands

Must be able to work at a computer
