Department of Finance in the Carlos Alvarez College of Business

The Finance department is composed of 16 full-time faculty members, including 11 tenured/tenure-track faculty known for their research expertise in the areas of corporate finance, investment, and other finance topics. The department has a strong research focus and offers a supportive environment for faculty to publish in the top academic journals in their fields.

The department offers undergraduate, masters, and Ph.D. degrees in finance. Tenured research active faculty generally have a 2/2 teaching load. Untenured, tenure-track faculty teach three courses per year.

With over 5,000 students, the Carlos Alvarez College of Business at UT San Antonio is AACSB accredited and offers a variety of bachelor's and master's programs as well as Ph.D. programs in four areas. Position Summary

The Department of Finance in the Carlos Alvarez College of Business at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UT San Antonio) seeks applicants for a Tenure/Tenure Track Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Finance specializing in FinTech starting in Fall 2027. The preference is to hire an Assistant Professor.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in finance or a closely-related discipline.
• Strong evidence of scholarly research in areas related to FinTech, i.e., a portfolio of research papers that are published or with evidence of potential for publication in top-tier finance journals.
• Evidence of effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels in finance, along with the ability to teach FinTech classes.
• This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.

Preferred Qualifications

• Research interests related to the application of machine learning and large language models to asset pricing or risk management, the economics of cryptocurrency and decentralized finance, algorithmic lending and credit markets, the regulation and systemic implications of financial technology platforms, or related topics.
• Ability and desire to work collegially with faculty and students from wide-ranging backgrounds.

For candidates at the level of Associate or Full Professor, tenure is contingent upon Board of Regents approval.
