POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION
The Open Space Steward II is a skilled to semi-skilled laborer who is involved in equipment operation, construction and mechanical work of a primarily physically demanding nature. Work involves responsibility for performing a variety of tasks with a major emphasis on general open space maintenance including trail systems management, landscape construction, natural areas maintenance and restoration. Position will require some weekends and overtime.
The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting range of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate. The City of Westminster has a Multilingual Stipend Program to encourage, and reward benefited employees who are conversationally fluent in languages other than English. Benefited employees have the opportunity to test their language proficiency skills and qualify for a bi-weekly stipend that will vary based on the employee's level of proficiency and usage.

JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
Essential Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities, and Tasks
Provides for the safety of the public and staff by recognizing and mitigating hazards, employing precautions common to parks, open space, and building maintenance
Performs open space construction, including:
Building and maintaining soft and hard surface trails
Conducting basic carpentry and masonry tasks
Implementing construction-related projects and repairs for open space structures and amenities
Trailhead development and parking lot installation and repair
Performs grounds maintenance of the Citys open space system and native sites, including:
Mowing open space areas on a scheduled basis
Installing and maintaining erosion control measures
Assisting with lake and pond management
Performing wildlife control and habitat improvement techniques
Preserves cleanliness of the Citys open space system, including:
Maintaining facilities and amenities to high customer service standards
Removing trash from open space
Cleaning underpasses and trail systems
Performs snow removal at public facilities, parks, and trails as needed
Leads seasonal employees and assists the Crewleader in assigning duties, reviewing work, and monitoring employee safety
Maintains regular and punctual attendance

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with constant exposure to extreme temperatures year-round. Position is responsible for the maintenance of all City rights-of-way and open space sites throughout the year. Snow removal at City facilities, parks, and trails is performed when needed.
Required Materials and Equipment
Operates light and heavy equipment such as pick-up trucks, small and tandem dump trucks, skid loaders, tractors, horticultural hand tools, self-propelled and riding mowers, snow blowers, 24-foot trailers, water equipment, and equipment to maintain trails, and other equipment as necessary. Depending on the project, may also use basic carpentry tools, power equipment, and chainsaws to complete assigned responsibilities.

Benefit Package
The City of Westminster does not participate in the Social Security system. In lieu of Social Security contributions, the city contributes to a 401(a) defined contribution plan on your behalf.
401(a) Contribution Rates:
Employee Mandatory Contribution: 11.5% of your base pay. Contributions are pre-tax and fully vested.
Employer Contribution: 12% of your base pay.
