Operating Engineer- JLL

What this job involves:

The Operating Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of facility systems and equipment. This position focuses on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing all building systems while maintaining compliance with government and regulatory standards. You will demonstrate technical expertise in one primary craft area (such as Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, or Central Utility Plant Operations) while applying multi-skilled capabilities across other systems. This role directly contributes to JLL's commitment to operational excellence and client satisfaction by ensuring optimal building performance and safety.

What your day-to-day will look like:

• Safely operate facility systems in full compliance with all applicable government and regulatory requirements while demonstrating and enforcing safety rules and behaviors
• Perform maintenance, monitoring, and repairs on mechanical, plumbing, structural, control, and fire life safety systems to maintain building systems at applicable standards
• Maintain HVAC systems and equipment at optimum levels through cleaning, inspecting, changing parts, recording readings, and making adjustments to ensure proper operation
• Respond to customer inquiries and Client Service Requests in a timely and professional manner, reviewing monthly summaries to identify and correct recurrent operational problems
• Monitor pricing and work quality of outside contractors to ensure cost-effective and high-quality service delivery
• Assist the site Facility Management team with emergency situations (fire alarms, chemical spills, hazardous conditions) and take appropriate corrective actions
• Maintain a clean and safe workplace while ensuring proper storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with departmental policies

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or state equivalent
• Minimum of two years of college or related trade schooling
• Minimum of four years' experience with high-pressure steam systems
• Valid U.S. driver's license with a clean driving record
• City of Chicago Stationary Engineers License
• EPA Universal Certification
• Current member in good standing with Local 399

Preferred Qualifications:

• Thorough knowledge of building systems to achieve operating cost efficiency (especially energy management) while satisfying customer requirements
• Demonstrated aptitude for and/or practical experience with thermodynamic, electrical, and mechanical systems, as well as computer-controlled equipment
• Working knowledge of computer applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel
• Proven ability to identify, enforce, and assess safety hazards and risks
• Experience participating in incident investigations and implementing corrective actions

Physical Requirements:

This position requires frequent walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, lifting, stooping, and working/extending overhead, including:

• Walking large, campus-like settings
• Lifting a minimum of 80 lbs
• Climbing stairs and navigating rooftops to access equipment
• Using ladders up to 30 ft and working from heights
• Climbing a ladder with a 300-lb weight limit while carrying a tool bag weighing approximately 20 lbs
• Ability to perform all work using proper personal protective equipment (PPE)

Location: Onsite- Chicago, IL

Salary: $50.08/hr

Shift 6:00 am-2:00p Tuesday- Saturday

Expected compensation for this position:

104,166.00 - 104,166.00 USD per year

Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
