LSU Health New Orleans Division of Facility Services is seeking highly skilled applicants for the position of Operating Engineer Master in the Preventive Maintenance Shop. There are multiple vacancies. This is skilled trades work mainly performing preventative maintenance work on mechanical systems and related fields such as plumbing and electrical. These positions are considered essential personnel position and must be available to respond to campus emergencies after normal business hours and during campus closures.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience or training in the operation or maintenance of large stationary engines or mechanical equipment.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

For those positions in which incumbents will be working with and handling refrigerants, possession of an appropriate EPA refrigerant recycling and recovery certification for technicians will be required (as required under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act, 1990).

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Performs preventive maintenance tasks on building mechanical equipment and components
  • Performs preventive maintenance tasks on pumps, motors, control systems, piping and other equipment
  • Operates, monitors and controls system wide output
  • Operates building mechanical systems including firing up steam boilers, starting and stopping chillers, pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, refrigeration and HVAC equipment
  • Perform minor projects as assigned on the entire campus that may include pipefitting, mechanical equipment, electrical circuits and painting
  • Takes immediate action to personally stop unsafe acts if delay to inform supervisor may allow accident to occur
  • Performs chemical and softener tests
  • Blows down boilers
  • Reads gauges to check water levels, steam pressure., and operation. of valves and auxiliary pumps
  • Assist other trades with preventive maintenance tasks
  • Special events work, Campus maintenance emergencies, Work orders

Position-Specific Details:

Possession of a 2nd class license in steam boilers and air conditioning.

Must have a current driver's license.

The employee may be assigned to the emergency team that remains on campus and or evacuates to an off-site location during emergency events.

Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of energy management systems. Skill in the operation, maintenance, and repair of energy management systems.

Appointment Type: Probational

Compensation: The starting rate of pay is $21.05 per hour and the 1st Quartile rate of pay is $25.26 with an additional $1 Longevity Pay, $2 Shift Differential and $3 weekend Pay for hours worked only. Rate of pay may be adjusted dependent upon applicants' experience and qualifications.
