SCOPE OF POSITION: The Manager of Clinical Operations is responsible for the coordination and deployment of nursing care resources for theOperating Room. Direct reports include: RNs, CSTs, and Surgical Assistants.Provides support and directs the Operating Room staff in the clinical area to optimize the care delivery process and patient flow. Works collaboratively with the staff to ensure delivery of quality patient care. Acts as a clinical expert. RESPONSIBILITIES: Fosters a commitment within the operating room suites towards excellence, caring, cooperation, and collaboration to meet the needs of patients presenting for surgery or procedures. Assists in development, interpretation and implementation of policies and procedures. Ensures periodic evaluation of operating room staff, including assisting with disciplinary action when warranted. Develops and executes the scheduling and staffing plans for operating room personnel. Makes budgetary, scheduling and staffing decisions with direct input and oversight from the Director of Surgical Services. Makes all staff assignments; reviews ancillary staff, make RN assignments; coordinates orientations precepts orients in conjunction with the education department. Evaluates patient acuity level, staff skill and experience level/mix and takes that into consideration when developing the schedule and staffing plans. Supports and directs the clinical operation as needed. Works proactively. Collaborates with all hospital departments to ensure strong, supportive organizational structure, functions and outcomes for both patients and staff members. Acts as a liaison and fosters collaboration between staff, family, physicians, anesthesia and other patient care team members. Possesses the ability to understand, interpret and execute collective bargaining unit agreements. Negotiates with patients and families to promote patient satisfaction when problems are identified. Assesses issues with regard to preoperative and postoperative services, initiates appropriate action and addresses the issue using the chain of command, and escalates issues to the appropriate leadership personnel. Collaborates with staff to ensure appropriate follow-up and reporting of events that involve quality, safety and regulatory issues. Coordinates and encourages staff development and clinical learning experiences for staff. Monitors and validates staff competencies and education needs/ requirements. Promotes an environment in which the patient care team can work cooperatively toward objectives. Facilitates communication, critical thinking and problem solving skills. Encourages staff to identify needs and areas where improvement in work processes or patient outcomes could be made. Ensures adequacy of human and material resources, including equipment and deploys resources in a fiscally responsible manner with direct oversight from the Director. Ensures that standards of patient care are appropriately implemented through concurrent oversight of the clinical area with support from the Director. Ensures appropriate documentation of care delivered through chart review. Work independently in project teams to accomplish goals and objectives in given time frame. Act as role model for staff related to best practices. Maintain positive outlook and instill the same in staff. Work together with all members of the surgical services areas to accomplish defined goals. Remains visible to staff and physicians throughout the day to be available and identify issues and roadblocks in surgical services areas needing improvements. Performs all other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: Must have basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital procedures. Perform automated functions that fall within job responsibility. Current CT RN License Bachelors Degree required, Masters Degree Preferred BLS required ACLS preferred Minimum of 3-5 years of OR clinical experience required Supervisory, management experience required CNOR certification preferred
