Operating Room Technician

Job Summary

Under general direction, observes and practices sterile technique, maintains asepsis, anticipates and assists the surgeon as needed. Actively participates in patient care and safety. Utilizes OR supplies conservatively and operates as a team member of the OR staff.

Job Responsibilities

• Follows Infection Control policies and demonstrates expertise in surgical scrub technique.
• Adheres to principles of sterile technique preoperatively and intra-operatively.
• Assists the surgeon with gowning, gloving, draping, and passing of instruments during procedures.
• Maintains an organized operative field and keeps instruments clean and properly placed.
• Keeps an accurate count of sponges, tapes, needles, dissectors, and instruments.
• Prepares for cases by assembling supplies and equipment and resolves conflicts or problems.
• Provides a safe surgical environment and identifies potential hazards.
• Utilizes experienced OR staff as a resource and acts as a resource for new OR personnel.
• Assists in suturing, retracting, and suctioning as directed by the surgeon.
• Handles and identifies specimens per policy.
• Expedites efficient OR turnover between cases.
• Takes rotating call duty.
• Performs additional responsibilities as requested.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Previous Operating Room experience.
• Previous Surgical Technologist experience.
