Position Summary:
Facilitates the transport of the patient to and from the OR under the direction of the RN team leader or RN coordinator. Assists the OR staff in assuring proper patient positioning, delivering lab work, preparing blood products, and performs cleaning of the OR suites as needed.
Job Duties:
Assists with transporting, moving, and positioning of patients to OR from other nursing areas as assigned
Positions patients for surgical procedure under supervision of RN and physician
Cleans stretchers after each patient
Maintains cleanliness in OR and cross-contamination between patients
Maintains stock supplies
Transports lab samples to lab
Follows safety guidelines, maintains patient privacy, and teaches others the same
Obtains sterile supplies, instruments for circulator, and opens onto sterile field aseptically
Knowledge of aseptic technique
Organizes and assists in end-of-case clean up
Assists circulator in obtaining supplies prior to bringing patient to room
Assists circulator in checking equipment
Using aseptic technique holds limbs for sterile surgical prep
Assists with maintaining appropriate levels of inventory by picking up needed materials when necessary
Relays accurate identification of specimens and cultures
Takes responsibility and maintains the safety of patients specific to their age-related needs in accordance with established policies and procedures
Actively participates in department meetings, committees, conferences, and in-services
Ensures patients are properly identified according to the patient identification policy prior to transporting to holding area or Surgery
Transports patients with IV pumps and/or oxygen and requests assistance from other staff when needed
Performs various other departmental functions on occasion, such as delivering schedules, supplies, lab specimens, etc.
Using principles of asepsis, performs surgical hand scrub, gowns, gloves, and hold retractors for surgical procedure
Assists the circulating nurse or anesthesia personnel in transferring the patient to the operating room table
Position Qualification:
High School diploma or GED required. Years of Experience can be related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Operating Room experience preferred.
