Operational Medical Director (OMD) to provide clinical oversight and leadership for its Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program.
This role ensures high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and effective EMS operations, while supporting training, protocol development, and emergency response readiness.
Purpose of the Role
  • Oversee EMS clinical operations
  • Ensure compliance with medical and regulatory standards
  • Improve patient care quality and outcomes
  • Provide medical leadership and consultation
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Oversight & Compliance
  • Review and oversee EMS policies, SOPs, and protocols
  • Ensure compliance with Virginia Office of EMS (VAOEMS) standards
  • Provide medical direction and clinical governance
Quality Assurance & Reporting
  • Review electronic Patient Care Reports (ePCR) regularly
  • Monitor EMS provider performance and patient care quality
  • Submit quarterly reports to management
Training & Leadership
  • Attend and contribute to monthly EMS meetings and training programs
  • Support continuing education and skill evaluation
  • Provide leadership and medical consultation to EMS teams
Emergency Support
  • Provide medical protocols during emergency situations
  • Act as on-line medical control during critical events
  • Occasionally provide direct patient care and field supervision
Collaboration
  • Work closely with EMS leadership and County stakeholders
  • Support program goals, compliance, and operational improvements
Work Model & Schedule
  • No fixed working hours (on-demand engagement)
  • Monthly meetings required
  • Hybrid model (remote with occasional onsite presence)
Required Qualifications
  • Medical Degree (MBBS / MD or equivalent)
  • Active and valid Virginia Medical License (Mandatory)
  • Experience in:
    • Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
    • Clinical leadership or medical directorship
  • Strong knowledge of EMS protocols and regulatory compliance
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience as an Operational Medical Director
  • Experience working with Fire & EMS departments
  • Leadership roles within medical or EMS organizations
  • Experience with:
    • Quality assurance programs
    • Training and education initiatives
