    Description

    Randolph-Macon College is seeking an Operations Assistant to join our Campus Safety team. The Office of Campus Safety serves as the main switch board for the College. The Operations Assistant is responsible for promoting positive community relations in the performances of his or her job duties. The duties require attention to detail and a high level of accuracy and confidentiality. Daily duties will include switchboard operations, monitoring security systems, communications via e-mail and radio, and working closely with the Operations Support Officer.

    Schedule

    This position follows a two-week rotating schedule of 12-hour shifts: Week 1 includes Monday, Thursday, and Friday; Week 2 includes Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday.

    Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

    • Maintain and monitor electronic security access systems.
    • Maintain information by accurate recordkeeping via dispatch reports. Ensure daily tasks are printed and posted appropriately.
    • Initiate after hour protocols for Residence Life and Physical Plant when necessary.
    • Maintain and handle all confidential material and information.
    • Develop proficiency with programs used by the College and the Office of Campus Safety.
    • Perform duties as assigned by Campus Safety Command Staff.

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required, with two to three years of administrative and/or customer service experience.
    • Computer efficiency in email and experience with current word processing software packages required; spreadsheet and database applications are preferred.
    • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write brief, accurate summary reports and send proper and timely notifications.
    • Well-developed knowledge of general office practices and procedures, with the ability to conduct and monitor several projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and work in a rapidly changing environment with frequent interruptions.
    • Ability to produce accurate work independently while following established policies and procedures.
    • Conduct all business in a professional and courteous manner while working directly with students, faculty, staff, and guests; excellent customer service skills required.

    WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The duties of the position involve physical risk when officer comes in contact with possible armed, belligerent trespassers and injured persons emitting bodily fluids. Position is considered essential, requiring an employee to report during inclement weather. Successful candidates must be flexible and willing to work extra shifts and special events as needed.
