Job Title: Operations Consultant (Process Optimization & Systems Implementation)
Location: Gloucester City, NJ 08030 (Fully Onsite)
Schedule: 4-Day Work Week (Fridays Off) Project would start in July
Compensation: $100-$110/hour (Consulting Engagement)
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Operations Consultant to partner directly with leadership and drive full-scale operational transformation for a growing engineering/construction organization.
This individual will step into a highly manual environment and take ownership of evaluating current workflows, building and implementing scalable SOPs, and recommending and executing system improvements to support future growth.
This is a hands-on, build-and-execute role-ideal for someone who can not only identify inefficiencies but also implement real, tangible solutions that streamline operations and reduce dependency on leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Process Evaluation & Strategy
Conduct a full assessment of current operations, identifying inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and breakdowns
Perform root cause analysis to address gaps in workflows and accountability
Develop a scalable operational roadmap aligned with projected company growth
SOP Development & Implementation
Design and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) across:
Order management
Purchasing
Production workflows
Administrative/back-office functions
Create structured documentation to ensure consistency and scalability
Train staff and leadership on newly implemented processes
Systems & Technology Optimization
Evaluate current tools (QuickBooks, Fulcrum, manual workflows)
Recommend and lead implementation of ERP or operational systems aligned with future growth
Identify and implement opportunities to automate paper-based processes
Order-to-Cash Process Improvement
Streamline the full lifecycle:
Sales order intake approval production billing collections
Improve cross-functional coordination between operations, admin, and leadership
Implement controls to prevent errors and missed steps
Financial & Operational Planning
Build and implement budgeting and forecasting frameworks
Establish KPIs and reporting to improve visibility into operational performance
Partner with leadership and external CPA to enhance financial processes
Leadership & Change Management
Work directly with a highly hands-on ownership team to drive change
Help transition leadership out of day-to-day operational bottlenecks
Improve structure across administrative functions including AR, payroll, and order processing
Qualifications
Proven experience as an Operations Consultant, Process Improvement Consultant, or similar
Strong background in building SOPs and scaling operations in manual environments
Experience evaluating and implementing ERP systems (QuickBooks migration strongly preferred)
Prior experience in engineering, construction, manufacturing, or project-based environments highly preferred
Deep understanding of order-to-cash workflows, purchasing, and production operations
Experience implementing budgeting and forecasting processes
Strong communication skills with the ability to influence hands-on leadership teams
Ability to operate both strategically and tactically (execution-focused)
