Position Description

About the Position:

We are looking for qualified candidates to lead a team of janitors while planning, organizing, and executing janitorial operations. This position reports to the Technical Facilities Manager.

The Technical Facilities Management Unit places a very strong emphasis upon providing excellent customer service to guests, clients and staff as well as helping to ensure their safety and enjoyment while they are at Seattle Center. The unit works 365 days a year on multiple shifts and operates 24 hours a day.

Job Responsibilities

Here is more of what you will be doing:

  • Team Leadership and Supervision: Lead, coach, and supervise a team of janitors, including training new employees on cleaning techniques and equipment usage.
  • Operational Oversight: Plan, organize, and execute janitorial operations, ensuring work is completed efficiently and adheres to company standards.
  • Quality Control & Inspections: Regularly inspect work areas to ensure high cleanliness standards and that all tasks are completed according to contracted specifications.
  • Client Communication: Act as a liaison between the client and the team to identify opportunities, resolve issues, and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure the team follows OSHA regulations, handles chemicals properly, and uses required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Inventory Management: Track, order, and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment to ensure team members are well-stocked.
  • Operational Support: Work alongside the crew, performing janitorial duties when necessary, including floor care (buffing, waxing), restroom sanitation, and waste removal.
  • Reporting & Administration: Document service progress through forms, logs, and reports, and manage staffing schedules.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of increasingly responsible experience in event service/maintenance work at a public recreation, entertainment or related facility (Other combinations of education, training and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability).

License, Certification, and Other Requirements:

  • Current Washington State Driver license and good driving record

You will be successful in this role if you have:

  • Leadership Experience: 3 or more years in a lead or supervisory role, with experience training, mentoring, and managing a cleaning team.
  • Cleaning Procedures: Expertise in modern cleaning methods, sanitizing best practices, and OSHA compliance.
  • Chemical/Equipment Handling: Strong knowledge of EPA-registered disinfectants and proper use of janitorial equipment (e.g., floor buffers, auto-scrubbers).
  • Safety Standards In-depth knowledge of occupational health regulations, including Bloodborne Pathogen Standards and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to use or learn janitorial management apps (e.g., EAM, Ungerboeck) and basic Microsoft Office applications.
  • Quality Inspection: Experience in conducting quality inspections and implementing corrective actions.
  • Team Motivation: Ability to motivate, delegate, and guide team members to ensure consistent, high-quality work.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong ability to act quickly to solve problems at the site, such as client complaints or staff absences.
  • Communication Effective communication skills for interacting with client management and providing reports to superiors.
  • Organization: Strong time management skills to create schedules and manage inventories of cleaning supplies.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods (often 8-12 hours) and perform physically demanding work.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy equipment (up to 50 pounds).
  • Willingness to work evening, weekend, or early morning shifts as required.

Additional Information

The full pay range for this step-progression position is $48.07 - $51.99 per hour. New employees begin at Step 1 of the pay progression, which is $48.07 hourly. Current City employees' starting rate of pay will be based on Personnel Rules regarding promotions.

Individuals selected to fill this position may be eligible to receive Language Premium Pay (SMC 4.20.360), which provides a $200.00 monthly stipend to qualified bilingual employees who are properly evaluated and assigned to provide direct communication in-language, interpretation, or translation services to the public on behalf of the City of Seattle.
