    There is currently one (1) position opening for Operations & Maintenance Technician IV located at Jensen Filtration Plant, Granada Hills, CA.

     

    This recruitment will be used to build an Eligibility List* for the following location(s): Diemer Filtration Plant, Yorba Linda, CA; Lake Matthews Reservoir, Riverside, CA; Lake Skinner Filtration Plant, Winchester, CA; Union Station HQ, Los Angeles, CA; Weymouth Filtration Plant, La Verene, CA; Mills Water Treatment Plant, Riverside, CA; Diamond Valley Lake, Hemet, CA, Gene Pump Plant, Park Dam, CA; Iron Mountain Pump Plant, Earp, CA; Hinds Pumping Plant, Desert Center, CA; Eagle Mountain Pumping Plant, Desert Center, CA.

     

     

    Job Summary

    As an Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Technician IV – Fleet, you will perform journey-level mechanical work on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles, as well as on-road, off-road, and stationary equipment. In this role, you will help drive regional water and power reliability by ensuring the quality, safety, and efficiency of Metropolitan’s diverse fleet—ranging from hybrid passenger cars to heavy construction machinery and emergency power generators. Based in a high-impact environment, you will execute predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance to keep critical operations moving, including during planned facility shutdowns.

     

     

    What You’ll Do

    • Advanced Diagnostics & Repair: Apply journey-level technical expertise to diagnose and repair complex computer-controlled systems, gasoline and diesel engines, manual/automatic transmissions, emission systems, HVAC, suspension, and steering.
    • Specialized System Maintenance: Maintain and repair complex automotive electrical, hydraulic, air brake, and ABS systems across on-road, off-road, and mobile/stationary emergency generator equipment.
    • Fleet Safety & Regulatory Inspections: Perform routine and regulatory 90-day fleet inspections to ensure all vehicles and heavy equipment meet stringent safety and environmental standards.
    • Broad Fleet Coverage: Service a wide array of fleet assets, including alternative fuel trucks, tractor-trailers, backhoes, graders, bulldozers, cranes, excavators, tankers, and specialized construction equipment.
    • Maintenance Management & Data Entry: Utilize a Maintenance Management System (MMS) database to generate work orders, track inventory, monitor fuel usage, maintain service records, and complete regulatory documentation.
    • Operational & Shutdown Support: Deliver reliable fleet maintenance services to support daily agency operations, emergency response efforts, and major operational shutdowns.

    This position will require travel to various District facilities throughout the service area, often requiring overnight stay in the project area.

    Schedule: 4/10 Tuesday through Friday, 6:00am – 4:30pm Start times are no earlier than 6 am and end times are no later than 6 pm.

     

     

    EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and Experience: High school diploma or certificate of high school equivalency in addition to a minimum of 6 years in an automotive and heavy equipment maintenance and repair position.

     

    OR

     

    High school diploma or certificate of high school equivalency and attainment of journey level skills through a recognized automotive light/medium or heavy equipment maintenance trade training program and/or applicable related experience within an industrial environment.

     

    Experience and knowledge as demonstrated by practical application of general and advanced techniques and practices specific to the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance and repair of automotive equipment including pumps, compressors, automotive, and heavy. Skills necessary include mechanical, hydraulics, electrical, welding, and computer/electronics, and handheld diagnostic systems.

     

    Relevant Experience is defined as: heavy equipment mechanic maintaining and repairing a variety of automotive, heavy equipment, and systems. Experience should also include gas, diesel and hybrid vehicles such as cars, sport utility vehicles, pickups and trucks of varied size and configurations, graders, (stationary and portable), bulldozers, tractor-trailers, tankers, cranes and other construction-related heavy equipment.

     

     

    CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

    Employees in this position may be required to obtain and maintain the following certifications, licensing and registrations:

    License(s)

    • Valid Driver’s license from state of residency equivalent to a California Class A, B, and/or C with appropriate commercial license endorsements.

    oValid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent that allows you to drive during your employment is required at time of application.
    o May be able to obtain valid California Class A Driver’s license and medical certification with appropriate commercial license endorsements (Tanker & Hazmat, air brake and trailer endorsements)

    • Certification from the South Coast Air Quality Management District in freon installation, automotive air conditioning and emissions (including CFC 12, Refrigerant recycling and service procedures)
