Operations Manager, Mission Critical Division

Seeking an experienced Operations Manager with a strong background in electrical construction, particularly in mission-critical projects, EV technologies, or similar advanced technology environments. The role involves overseeing daily operations and driving the growth of the Mission Critical electrical division. As a Midwest-based electrical contractor with over 100 years in the industry and a portfolio that includes several hyperscale clients, this position offers significant opportunities for leadership and strategic development.

This position requires weekly travel to job sites as well as engagement in business development activities with general contractors and owners. The work schedule is hybrid, allowing for remote work, site visits, and occasional travel to the Kansas City office. Candidates are not required to reside in the Kansas City metro area.

Annual Salary based on experience ($170K-$200K+)

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of project managers, engineers, and other associates within the division.
  • Collaborate with the Electrical Estimating Manager to support pre-construction activities.
  • Monitor design progress to ensure alignment with established costs and schedules.
  • Address constructability issues during design phases and evaluate alternative design concepts.
  • Participate in preparing Scope of Work and schedules for proposals and engage in Pre-Bid meetings with project management and engineering teams.
  • Develop strategies for project pursuits through customer interactions and oversee marketing efforts during the pursuit phase.
  • Act as a member of the Electrical Leadership Team, liaising between Marketing, Engineering, and Preconstruction Departments to address issues and recommend process improvements for profitability and customer satisfaction.
  • Work with executives to identify and qualify prospects within assigned market segments while maintaining positive relationships with key decision-makers.
  • Review bid documents and drawings in coordination with the Estimating Department for necessary modifications.
  • Assign projects to project managers and guide them in compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to federal guidelines and regulations for federal contracts.
  • Promote safety standards among project managers and foremen.
  • Conduct monthly project reviews to monitor progress, identify potential issues, recognize achievements, and provide coaching as needed.

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related construction discipline preferred.

Experience:

  • 15+ years of experience as an Electrical Construction Project Manager on large-scale projects in the Mission Critical arena (data centers, advanced manufacturing, etc.)
  • Minimum 10 years of experience supervising multiple project management teams.
