Help Shape the Future of Georgia's Electric Grid

Georgia System Operations Corporation (GSOC) is seeking an Operations Planning Analyst to support the evolving demands of Georgia's electric system through advanced analytics, modeling, and operational planning.

This role sits at the intersection of power system operations and data analytics, where your work directly supports grid reliability and economic performance for Georgia's 38 member cooperatives. You will help address some of the industry's most complex challenges, including renewable integration, transmission congestion, datacenter load growth, and distributed energy resources-while contributing to the modernization of the electric grid. This opportunity is ideal for an analyst who enjoys applying quantitative methods, building models, and translating data into actionable operational insights to support critical infrastructure.

Candidates with deeper experience, advanced analytical expertise, and the ability to lead initiatives or mentor others may be considered for higher-level classifications (Analyst III or IV).

What You'll Do

As an Operations Planning Analyst, you will play a key role in supporting GSOC's planning and operational functions through data-driven analysis and modeling.

You will:

  • Develop and maintain analytical models to support grid optimization, including solar production forecasting, transmission congestion prediction, and economic dispatch analysis
  • Use power flow modeling tools to support operations planning analyses
  • Analyze transmission and generation conditions, including outages, system constraints, and seasonal variations to support reliable operations
  • Build reporting tools and dashboards to track operational KPIs, cost allocation, and optimization outcomes
  • Perform generation portfolio and resource optimization analyses
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations planning, transmission planning, and member services
  • Support regulatory compliance efforts and develop technical documentation
  • Present analytical findings and recommendations to senior leadership and external stakeholders

At advanced levels, this role may also:

  • Lead complex modeling initiatives and analytical framework development
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in operations planning and grid analytics
  • Represent GSOC in industry working groups and technical committees
  • Mentor junior analysts and drive continuous improvement in analytical processes

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field (Engineering degrees are a plus); will consider a combination of experience and/or education
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets
  • Proficiency in tools such as Python, SQL, and Excel
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical findings into business insights
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate across teams

Preferred Qualifications

Power Systems Knowledge, Technical & Data Platforms and Professional Credentials

  • Understanding of electric utility operations and power flow analysis
  • Familiarity with load forecasting, generation dispatch, and resource planning concepts
  • Exposure to utility systems such as SCADA or EMS and power flow tools (e.g., PSS/E, PowerWorld, TARA)
  • Experience with data analytics platforms such as Databricks and visualization tools like Power BI
  • PMP, EIT, or PE certifications are a plus

Leveling Overview

  • Analyst II – Developing contributor; supports modeling, reporting, and analytical activities
  • Analyst III – Independent contributor; leads analyses and supports cross-functional initiatives
  • Analyst IV – Advanced contributor; serves as a subject matter expert, leads complex initiatives, and mentors others
