The Operations Decision Science team at Delta seeks an operations research scientist to take on developing data-driven solutions aimed at continually improving airline performance and decision making.
An appropriate candidate will have good technical knowledge of operations research optimization models, simulation models, and core data science. The candidate should have excellent organizational and communication skills and feel comfortable in a fast-paced environment. The role will support the delivery of decision support applications based on optimization models and data science.
Primary Functions
Design, develop, implement, and calibrate optimization products Build complex data sets from multiple data sources, both internally and externally Partner with Information Technology to optimize and enhance the database environment for optimal efficiency and best practices Provide technical leadership to Deltas business units Leverage emerging technologies and identify efficient and meaningful ways to disseminate data and analysis to satisfy the business needs Lead complex process improvement and project management engagements for both individual business units and cross-divisional initiatives Interface with business unit leaders to develop and maintain internal customer relationships

Minimum Qualifications
Working knowledge in multiple optimization methods, LP, MILP, QCP, MIQP, CP, etc. Working knowledge in commercial optimization solvers, Gurobi, Cplex, etc. Working knowledge in model tuning and calibration Familiarity with AWS Proficiency in working with relational databases and query authoring, SQL Proficiency in Python, C, or other programming languages Strong written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills Strong project management, organizational, and prioritization skills Must be performing satisfactorily in the present position Consistently prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data Embraces diverse people thinking and styles Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors or Masters degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or equivalent combination of education and experience Experience in fine tuning and model calibration Working knowledge of GIT, Linux, Unix, and Bash Shell scripting is preferred Working knowledge of statistical and machine learning tools, e.g., SAS, R, TensorFlow
