Operations Specialist

What will you be doing!

• Overseeing and assisting in the development and updating of the environmental monitoring branch (EMB) documentation.
• Collaborating on the update and review of EMB procedures, lab protocol, radiological work procedures, training qualification cards and scopes of work.
• Interfacing with Project Control Co-Ordinators, Quality Program and EMB staff to generate the required paperwork for the purchase of capital cost items and service contracts.
• Performing routine lab work, data review, and administration.
• Attending and or coordinating project meetings and field walk-downs.
• Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

Education

• A Bachelors (Honour) in Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing (e.g. nuclear engineering, medical health physics); or membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization.
• A degree in chemistry, biochemistry, bioinformatics, computational biology, environmental sciences or a related field.

Experience

• Experience within a laboratory and field environment, following strict quality controls.
• Familiarity with a laboratory information management system.
• Work experience with procedures update and development.
• Experience in a nuclear facility would be an asset.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Good understanding of non-radiological laboratory methods.
• Excellent communications (both written and verbal) and presentation skills.
• Ability to interact effectively with managers and staff of facilities, laboratories, and support groups, and to work as part of a team is required.
• Computer skills applicable to database management, instrument automation and spreadsheet applications.
• Familiarity with project management software is desirable.

Security Clearance Eligibility Required

• Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom.
• CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariats "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."

Working Conditions:

• Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.
• This position is part of the CRPEG Union and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the CRPEG Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, youll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation, and other conditions that support a fair and consistent working environment.
• The office working environment is a cubicle and/or shared space setting.
• Some field walk-downs will be required, which could involve walking long distances in a forested environment and being outside for an extended period of time with possible exposure to various wildlife.

This role is a fully onsite role that requires the employee to primarily work at CNLs Chalk River Laboratory site, with only occasional opportunities to work remotely, if desired by the employee.
