Overview
2nd Shift Operations Supervisor
The successful candidate must provide technical assistance and overall direction to a team of hourly representedemployees. Core to this position is the successful performance of the team's safety, quality, cost, schedule and continuous improvement.
Effective communication, leadership, creating a positive team environment with employees and peers is key to success for the selected candidate. This position of Operations Supervisor provides a platform to gain a working knowledge of various manufacturing environments and their relationships with other parts of Electric Boat business.This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer or experienced trades-personto advance into a career-building leadership position and gain invaluable experienceto support their career development.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Lead the activities of approximately 15 structural welders to support piping trades.
Support hanger welding, visual inspection and sell NDT of piping hangers
Primary point of contact to interface with engineering, ship's management, quality and other trade departments
Lead the team to achievement of company goals for safety, quality, cost, schedule and continuous improvement
Take ownership of team performance
Develop new welders
Ability to qualify and maintain visual inspection qualifications for completed welds (MDD-00948)
Ability to learn to assign welding wire through AWPSS
Interpret policies, procedures, SSPs, MDDs to ensure procedural compliance
Promote and maintain a strong safety culture
Responsibilities
Skills:
Have the abilityto read and interpretblueprints, procedures, and related reference documents
Have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with subordinates and supervisors
Must be able to work all assignedshifts
Must be able to work extended hours
Must be able to go on road assignments as business needs dictate
Applicant must obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance as a condition of employment
Capable of reading, interpreting and putting into effect plans, procedures and instructions
Good presentation skills and attention to detail preferred
Proficientin MS Word, Excel and Power Point preferred
Qualifications
Required:
High School Diploma or GED
Must meet one of the following:
Minimum 1 year trade experience at electric boat
Minimum of 3 yearcombined relevant experience and leadership experiencein a high-volume setting
Minimum of 1 year EB experience and an Engineering degree in a related field
Preferred:
College/technical school AS/BS degree
1 year welding, shipfitting, pipefitting experience
3 years of shipyard experience
Previous supervisory experience
Previous related Military/Navy experience
Nuclear qualifications
Knowledge of 688 and VIRGINIA class submarines
Radcon qualifications
Welding, metal fabrication, pipe fitting, NDT experience
