About the Company
Our client is a premier, stable national manufacturer and distributor specializing in high-performance structural building materials and architectural metal systems. Operating a robust national network of regional plants, they blend heavy industrial manufacturing with localized distribution hubs.
Position Summary
The Operations Supervisor represents the highest level of local operational leadership at the Spokane branch, taking complete ownership of the plant floor, machinery utilization, and back-office logistics. Reporting directly to the regional General Manager, this position operates with immense daily freedom and low micromanagement.
This is not a desk job—we are seeking a hands-on, floor-first leader who steps onto a plant layout and immediately identifies how to utilize Lean, 5S, and preventive maintenance frameworks to maximize machinery uptime, eliminate assembly bottlenecks, and raise floor output.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the Production Floor: Directly lead, coach, and develop an on-site crew of 10 to 20 hourly machine specialists and warehouse operators. Address performance gaps, direct shift schedules, and build a culture of safety and accountability.
- Drive Manufacturing Throughput: Oversee daily roll-forming, metal fabrication, and raw material processing lines to maintain optimal machine uptime, eliminate scrap, and hit tight shipment deadlines.
- Process Optimization (5S/Lean): Champion floor layout re-engineering and workflow improvements using 5S and Lean frameworks to reduce cycle times and streamline material flow.
- Master Data & Inventory Discipline: Enforce strict data accuracy by tracking daily production metrics and raw material transactions within a modern, cloud-based ERP framework using electronic barcoding and digital scanning hardware.
- Asset & Machinery Oversight: Supervise preventive maintenance programs and safe operational parameters for raw material processing equipment, roll-forming tools, and industrial forklifts.
Note: This position completely owns back-office manufacturing and warehouse logistics. Front-office administrative duties (such as customer invoicing and sales order entry) are managed separately.
Requirements
Must-Haves
- Frontline Leadership: 3 to 5+ years of supervisory or shift lead experience directly on an industrial manufacturing, fabrication, or heavy production floor.
- ERP & Digital Scanning Discipline: High proficiency working daily within a modern ERP/MRP system. Direct experience utilizing electronic barcoding and handheld scanning devices for material tracking is required.
- Hands-on Technical Mindset: High mechanical aptitude and comfort working around heavy machinery; fully willing to step onto the floor to operate machinery, drive a forklift, or support the crew when up against tight delivery deadlines.
- Proven Improvement Track Record: Demonstrated ability to implement Lean/5S changes or preventive maintenance routines that left a past production line or facility more organized, safer, and more efficient.
- Physical Capability: Ability to stand and walk on a concrete floor for extended periods and safely lift up to 50 lbs when supporting floor operations.
- Career Stability: A steady employment record showcasing professional growth, reliability, and long-term commitment (no pattern of frequent job-hopping).
Nice-to-Haves
- Prior experience managing a blended facility handling both heavy machinery production (e.g., metal roll-forming, stamping, or fabrication) and site logistics.
- Active forklift operator/train-the-trainer credentials or formal safety certifications (OSHA-10 / OSHA-30).
- Educational background in Operations Management, Engineering, or Industrial Leadership (equivalent hands-on supervisory experience accepted in lieu of a degree).
What This Role Offers
- Highest Local Leadership & True Autonomy: Enjoy complete operational ownership of the Spokane branch. Run your floor like your own business without constant micromanagement or complex layers of local reporting.
- Fully Paid for Your Time: Shift parameters are stable, but unlike salaried supervisor positions that expect 50+ hours a week for zero extra pay, this role is strictly non-exempt. Any time worked past 40 hours in a week is paid at standard time-and-a-half ($46.88 – $54.09).
- High-Visibility Career Growth: Step into a key leadership role reporting directly to regional executive leadership within a growing, stable national organization operating successfully since 1974.
