Operations Support Manager

Machine Tool Operations & Technical Support

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Operations Support Manager to lead operational support functions within a high-performance machine tool manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for driving operational execution, technical support coordination, machine uptime, and continuous improvement initiatives across shop floor and field support operations.

The Operations Support Manager will serve as a key leader supporting complex CNC machine systems while overseeing a multidisciplinary team of technical personnel. This individual will work cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, Service, and Customer Support teams to improve operational efficiency, machine reliability, and customer satisfaction.

This position requires strong hands-on CNC machine experience, technical leadership capability, and the ability to develop team performance within a fast-paced industrial manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of 20–30 technical personnel, including technicians, engineers, and support staff. (only 4 direct reports)
  • Drive daily operational execution across shop floor and support functions to ensure productivity, efficiency, and quality objectives are achieved.
  • Provide operational reporting and KPI updates to senior leadership, including resource utilization, performance trends, risks, and improvement initiatives.
  • Establish and enforce operational processes, procedures, and best practices aligned with organizational goals.
  • Promote a culture focused on accountability, safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as the technical authority for CNC machine tools, including troubleshooting, diagnostics, and operational support.
  • Utilize hands-on CNC machine experience to support complex machine issues and guide technical teams through problem resolution.
  • Maintain working knowledge of legacy and modern machine systems, including controls, mechanical systems, and automation components.
  • Partner with Engineering teams to identify root causes and implement long-term corrective actions for recurring machine issues.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members to strengthen technical capability and leadership development.
  • Train and develop Operations Supervisors to effectively lead teams and provide leadership continuity.
  • Identify skill gaps and implement structured training initiatives to improve team competency and performance.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Service, Spare Parts, and Sales teams to support operational priorities and issue resolution.
  • Act as a key escalation point for operational challenges impacting machine performance or project schedules.
  • Identify and drive improvements related to operational efficiency, machine uptime, response times, and cost reduction.
  • Analyze operational performance data and implement corrective actions to improve effectiveness and reliability.
  • Lead standardization, waste reduction, and productivity improvement initiatives across operations.
  • Support strategic operational excellence initiatives aligned with long-term business objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • Hands-on CNC machine experience, including setup, operation, troubleshooting, and machine system understanding.
  • Strong knowledge of machine tools, industrial equipment, and manufacturing operations.
  • Proven leadership experience managing teams of 20–30 employees within operations or technical environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, drive accountability, and deliver results in fast-paced manufacturing operations.
  • Experience within machine tools, capital equipment, industrial manufacturing, or automation environments strongly preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP systems (SAP preferred).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and team development skills.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in operations, manufacturing, or technical leadership roles.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining operational performance standards.

Education

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Technical degree, bachelor’s degree, or equivalent hands-on CNC/machine tool experience strongly preferred.

Location & Travel Requirements

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency required.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation: $105,000 – $145,000 annually, depending on experience.
