Position Summary

The Bagger Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring automated and semi-automated bagging equipment used to package manufactured finished goods. This position ensures product quality, accurate packaging weights, proper labeling, and safe material handling practices while maintaining production efficiency. The operator works closely with production, quality assurance, and warehouse teams to ensure customer requirements and company standards are met.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate RM bagging, weighing, sealing, labeling, and palletizing equipment.
  • Monitor production processes to ensure finished goods are packaged according to specifications.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and identify operational issues.
  • Adjust machine settings to maintain optimal production efficiency and quality standards.
  • Verify bag weights and packaging accuracy using calibrated scales and measuring equipment.
  • Inspect finished bags for defects, damage, and proper labeling.
  • Complete production records, batch documentation, and inventory reports accurately.
  • Load packaging materials into bagging systems and maintain adequate supplies throughout shifts.
  • Remove and dispose of waste materials in accordance with company procedures.
  • Coordinate with forklift operators and warehouse personnel to move finished products.
  • Follow all safety policies, environmental regulations, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Assist with equipment maintenance, cleaning, and changeovers as required.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area using 5S principles and good housekeeping practices.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous manufacturing, packaging, or production experience preferred.
  • Ability to operate industrial machinery safely and effectively.
  • Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and understand production schedules, work instructions, and safety procedures.
  • Basic math skills for weight verification, production counts, and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating automated bagging and palletizing equipment.
  • Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Experience in additive manufacturing, chemical, or industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with ERP or manufacturing tracking systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during a 12-hour shift.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to dust, noise, and moving machinery.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and safety footwear.

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing and production facility environment.
  • Exposure to industrial equipment, forklifts, conveyors, and packaging systems.
  • May require overtime, weekend work, and shift rotation to support production demands.
  • Adherence to all company safety and quality standards is required.

This position is essential to ensuring high-quality finished products are packaged accurately, safely, and efficiently to support customer demand and company production goals.

Safety Responsibilities

The Bagger Operator is responsible for maintaining a safe work environment and strictly adhering to all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

  • Follow all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Conduct pre-shift inspections of bagging equipment, conveyors, palletizers, scales, and associated machinery to identify potential hazards.
  • Utilize required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, gloves, respiratory protection, and high-visibility clothing as required.
  • Adhere to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures during maintenance, cleaning, troubleshooting, and equipment clearing operations.
  • Maintain awareness of pinch points, moving equipment, conveyors, rotating machinery, and forklift traffic throughout the production area.
  • Report unsafe conditions, near misses, accidents, injuries, equipment malfunctions, and environmental concerns immediately to supervision.
  • Participate in safety meetings, hazard assessments, job safety analyses (JSAs), and ongoing safety training programs.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping by promptly cleaning material spills, packaging debris, and dust accumulation to minimize slip, trip, and fire hazards.
  • Follow safe material handling techniques and ergonomic practices to reduce the risk of strains and injuries.
  • Verify all machine guards, emergency stops, safety interlocks, and warning devices are functioning properly prior to operation.
  • Assist in emergency response situations, including evacuations, spill containment, and incident reporting procedures.
  • Monitor work areas for dust accumulation and potential combustible dust hazards when applicable.
  • Promote a safety-first culture by encouraging compliance and accountability among team members.
  • Maintain clear access to emergency exits, fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, first aid kits, and safety equipment at all times.
  • Comply with all environmental, health, and safety (EHS) requirements related to waste disposal, chemical handling, and product containment.
