    Job Description

    Major Purpose:

    The primary responsibility of the Equipment Operator is to safely operate heavy machinery, such as material handler (excavator), conveyor belts and front end loaders, to handle petroleum coke in the Citgo refinery in Lake Charles Louisiana, and assist in maintaining the equipment according to Savage standards.

    Responsibilities

    The Equipment Operator will contribute to a coke-handling team by operating several pieces of equipment that will help move, stockpile, and load material onto trucks.Operate any one of the following on a daily basis: a KOMATSU WA500 Loader (or equivalent), Skid steer and a Material HandlerAssist the operation with other tasks deemed necessary to meet customer expectations; i.e. maintenance, clean-up, safety observations and inspectionsPerform thorough pre and post-trip inspectionsMaintain cleanliness of equipmentExpand personal knowledge of operating equipmentReport maintenance issues to the maintenance crewUnderstand our critical service requirements and see they are metTake an active role in our safety program including attendance at all safety meetings and ensure safe behaviorsEnsure environmental compliance

    Qualifications

    Extensive experience operating large pieces of heavy equipmentMust be able to read, write, speak and understand English

    Because this position operates in the Citgo Lake Charles Refinery, candidates:

    Must meet refinery standards for entering the plant, i.e. clean criminal history, ability to pass a drug & alcohol screen, possess a current Driver's License and TWIC card at the time of applyingShould understand best practices of maintaining and safely operating Heavy EquipmentMust be safety-conscious and understand safe work practices for a refineryMust be comfortable with heights including the ability to walk up and down conveyor belt lines and climb ladders

    Additionally, any knowledge dealing with conveyor systems will be considered a plus, but a willingness to learn the conveyor system is necessary.Physical and Environmental Issues:Equipment Operators are routinely required to work outdoors and as a result are exposed to the elements. They must be physically able to handle large tools and equipment (50 lbs.), climb on and off the equipment, ascend and descend ladders, and should not have a fear of heights.
