    Description

    The Laser Operator is responsible for setting up and operating CNC laser cutting equipment to produce high-quality sheet metal parts that meet engineering specifications and production schedules. This position performs machine setup, quality inspections, preventative maintenance, and supports continuous production in a safe and efficient manufacturing environment. This position works on 2nd shift (Monday - Thursday 3:30 pm - 2:00 am).

    Detailed Description:

    Duties/Responsibilities:
    • Set up and operate CNC laser cutting equipment to manufacture sheet metal parts according to work instructions and engineering specifications.
    • Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, and machine settings based on material type and thickness.
    • Load materials, set machine offsets, perform simple program edits, and monitor production to ensure quality standards are met.
    • Inspect finished parts for dimensional accuracy and conformance to specifications, performing deburring as needed.
    • Organize workload to maximize material flow and production efficiency.
    • Communicate with Production, Engineering, Quality, and other departments to resolve production or quality issues.
    • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance to keep equipment operating efficiently.
    • Identify equipment malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions and make machine adjustments within established guidelines.
    • Assist in training team members and serve as a resource for laser operations when needed.
    • Maintain a clean, organized work area by following 5S principles and all company safety policies.
    • Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Perform other duties, assignments, and special projects as assigned.

    Required Skills/Abilities:
    • Ability to safely operate CNC laser cutting equipment and related manufacturing machinery.
    • Ability to read and interpret work instructions, blueprints, and engineering drawings.
    • Knowledge of precision measuring tools and quality inspection techniques.
    • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
    • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
    • Ability to prioritize work and meet production schedules.
    • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

    Preferred Skills/Abilities:
    • Formal CNC machining education or equivalent technical training.
    • Previous experience operating CNC laser equipment in a manufacturing environment.
    • Experience using overhead cranes and material handling equipment.
    • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or 5S principles.

    Education and Experience:
    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • Minimum one (1) year of related manufacturing or CNC machine operation experience required.
    • Formal CNC machining education or equivalent work experience preferred.

    Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
    • Ability to frequently bend, reach, stoop, kneel, and perform repetitive motions.
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
    • Ability to safely operate an overhead crane.
    • Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving equipment, and varying temperatures while wearing required PPE.
