Job Purpose

As an Operator, you will be responsible for operatingequipment to lift, move, and position heavy materials and equipment at construction sites. Your expertise in operation, safety protocols, and load management will be crucial in ensuring efficient and secure lifting operations. You will collaborate with the construction team to meet project requirements and contribute to the successful completion of construction projects.

Reporting Relationships

  • Position reports to: Laborer Foreman or Superintendent

  • Operate various types of equipment to lift, move, and position heavy materials, equipment, and structures.
  • Inspect and maintain the equipment before and after each use, ensuring proper functionality and reporting any issues or malfunctions to supervisors.
  • Interpret project plans, blueprints, and specifications to understand lifting requirements and determine optimal positioning.
  • Safely and skillfully maneuver the controls to accurately lift and place materials at designated locations.
  • Calculate load capacities, rigging configurations, and perform weight distribution calculations to ensure safe lifting operations.
  • Collaborate with signalers, spotters, and other construction team members to coordinate crane movements and ensure site safety.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and operate in a responsible manner, considering surrounding workers, structures, and environmental conditions.
  • Maintain accurate records of operations, including logs, equipment inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • Continuously update knowledge and skills related to operation techniques, safety practices, and industry regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to understand project requirements and execute lifting operations accordingly.

Education and Experience

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

Must have valid driver's license with clean driving record. Motor Vehicle report required.

Physical Demands:

Occasionally must stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and climb and balance. Must be able to talk, hear, taste, smell, and use hands to finger, handle, and feel. Seldom may have to stoop, crouch, or crawl. May need to occasionally lift up to 100 lbs.
