Responsibilities/Job Description:
Fairview is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will support pediatric ophthalmologists and other eye care professionals in providing exceptional care to children and their families. You will assist with patient intake, vision testing, diagnostic procedures, patient education, and clinic operations in a fast-paced, collaborative environment dedicated to improving children's eye health. This is a full-time, day-shift position working Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with 8-hour shifts. Assists physicians and clinical/clerical staff in the efficient daily clinic flow of patients in the clinic. Assists ophthalmologists and optometrists in the preparation and examination of patients with ophthalmic diseases of the eye. Facilitates efficient patient flow in the clinic including scheduling appointments and tests, enters EMR patient information, administers eye drops, and assists with minor procedures. Listens effectively in order to follow instructions from multiple sources.
Responsibilities
- Provide Appropriate and Accurate Ophthalmic Testing, including: Medical History Taking; Visual Acuity Testing; Measuring Intraocular Pressure; Glasses Neutralization – Reading Glasses Rx; Automated Refraction; Administering of Eye Drops; Patient Education; Visual Field Testing; Contact Lens – Basic Fit & I & R.
- Completes pre-visit planning of daily schedule, testing and patient’s chief complaint
- Ensures all patient testing is performed prior to patients being roomed.
- Answers and directs concerns received via phone calls or task assignments. Assists with care coordination as directed
- Provides Patient Education instruction to patients per physician order regarding medications, tests and procedures. Documents education given in the EMR.
- Provides information to other health care professionals as it pertains to the delivery of patient care.
- Assists physicians/providers with minor patient procedures
Required Qualifications
- 1 year optical, optometric or ophthalmology experience
- Patient scheduling and check-in experience
- Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross) Upon Hire
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant within 2 Yrs
Preferred Qualifications
- Ophthalmic equipment experience
Qualifications:
$24.08- $34.01 Hourly
