Under general supervision provides assistance to Ophthalmologists Optometrists and nursing staff with direct and indirect patient care ensuring smooth work and patient flow within the department.

Primary Responsibilities

Assists in scheduling of appointments tests treatments andor surgeries. Is familiar with insurance benefits

Escorts patients from reception area to exam room and prepares them for exam andor treatment

Accurately and efficiently takes patient histories ocular medical and family and vital signs as applicable

Performs a variety of ocular testing and visual assessment skills

Instillation of ocular medications under direct supervision of a physician

Patient instruction concerning medication testing surgical procedures and documentation thereof in the medical record

Application of ocular dressings as applicable

Assists physiciansproviders in preparing for minor surgical procedures in office

Records glass andor contact lens prescriptions

Assists in coordination of patient care services with other clinic departments

Assists in the development revision andor updating of department policy and procedurestandards of care or practice

Orders and maintains department practice inventory
