Position Summary:
Responsible for assisting the ophthalmologist by gathering data pertaining to the patient’s ocular health status. The ophthalmic technician is proficient in performing appropriate clinical tests, drawing on formal education and/or clinical experience that provide a solid understanding of the theory and principles of eye care.
Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL –DUTIES
Clinical
- Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
- Accurately document patient visual complaint and/or patient history.
- Accurately record medical and surgical data into electronic medical records
- Obtain and record patient's visual acuity, intraocular pressure and all required exam elements into EMR
- Administers topical ophthalmic medications under the direction of the physician.
- Ability to assist with in-office procedures ensures proper informed consent is obtained.
- Assists with patient education.
- Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
- Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations.
Administrative
- Report inventory and supply needs to leadership for timely ordering.
- Help maintain supply room organized and stocked
- Participate in daily team huddles and regularly scheduled meetings as planned and required.
- Understand and accept responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer
- Contribute to the team effort by completing additional tasks or projects as needed.
- Maintain positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or the equivalent years related experience preferred
- Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience preferred
- Must be willing and able to travel between assigned office locations
- Reliable transportation
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to cross-train to provide support as needed
