The Northville Health Center is an Ambulatory Care facility comprised of clinical and diagnostic services dedicated to providing high-quality health care services for Adults and Children. The 2-story facility is located in Northville Township. Responsibilities

The Northville Health Center Kellogg Eye Center seeks to improve lives through curing, preventing, and treating eye disease. By performing basic tests and procedures under the close supervision of medical and allied health staff, mastery of all basic tests and procedures is required. Additionally, the duties of an ophthalmic technician, as well as ophthalmic tests and procedures with proficiency in the ophthalmic sub-specialties, must be performed.

Responsibilities (continued)

  • Coordinate follow-up care of patients
  • Assist in training and coordinating the work of ophthalmic assistants and technicians
  • Participate in research studies
  • Actively assist in clinic workflow, scheduling of technicians, and communicating delays to patients
  • Other duties as directed by supervisor
  • Provide exceptional patient service
  • Assist in clinical procedures

Required Qualifications

Associate Level Requirements

  • Graduation from high school is necessary
  • Two years of college with courses in health science area is desirable
  • Successful completion of Michigan Medicines 12-week training program is required or some experience as an Ophthalmic Technician is required
  • Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant COA from the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology is required within one year of employment
  • This classification requires Primary Source Verification

Intermediate Level Requirements

  • Graduation from high school
  • Reasonable experience as an Ophthalmic Technician
  • Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant COA from the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology
  • This classification requires Primary Source Verification

Desired Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in healthcare
  • 1-3 years of Ophthalmic Technician experience
  • Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records and medical terminology is desirable
  • Respectful and compassionate attitude
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and follow all guidelines for documentation
  • Collaborative and collegial, demonstrates integrity
  • Organized, able to maintain and coordinate multiple items
  • Excellent computer skills, proficient in data entry, analysis, graphing, Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with electronic equipment

Work Schedule

  • Monday-Friday, dependent on clinical needs
  • Modes of Work: Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
