Berkeley Heights Eye Group in New Providence, New Jersey, is a comprehensive ophthalmology practice led by Todd Leventhal, MD. Dr. Leventhal and his team offer individualized, patient-centered eye care in a family-oriented environment to patients living in and around Union County. 

 

In addition to comprehensive eye exams and routine prescriptions for glasses and contacts, the team at Berkeley Heights Eye Group provides expert care for a range of eye conditions, including dry eye, floaters, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. 

 

As a skilled surgeon with access to state-of-the-art equipment and updated ophthalmic testing, Dr. Leventhal and the team at Berkeley Heights Eye Group also perform advanced procedures like LASIK, laser eye surgery, and specialty lens implants.

Who You Are:

An experienced professional Ophthalmic Technician assists ophthalmologists in delivering comprehensive eye care to patients. They are responsible for conducting diagnostic tests, maintaining medical records, and ensuring the smooth operation of a clinical setting. This role requires a combination of technical skills, patient interaction, and administrative duties to support eye care treatment plans and improve patient outcomes.

What You'll Do:

Essential Responsibilities

  • Performing diagnostic tests such as visual field testing and optical coherence tomography (OCT)
  • Measuring and recording patients' visual acuity and eye pressure
  • Assisting with minor surgical procedures and administering eye medications as directed by the ophthalmologist
  • Performing Manifest Refractions
  • Preparing examination rooms and ensuring all equipment is sterilized and operational
  • Collecting patient medical histories and preparing them for the ophthalmologist
  • Educating patients about eye care, treatment plans, and medication usage
  • Managing patient records and ensuring accurate data entry into medical software systems
  • Performing contact lens evaluations and fittings
  • Assisting in the fitting and adjusting of corrective eyewear
  • Scheduling patient appointments and managing the daily calendar
  • Managing inventory of medical supplies and ordering new stock as needed
  • Collaborating with other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care for patients
What You Bring:

Qualifications

  • Experience in an ophthalmology or optometry setting
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems
  • Knowledge of common ophthalmic diagnostic equipment
  • Strong patient care and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology specific to ophthalmology
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and protocols
  • Basic computer skills
What We Offer:

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Full-time, on-site position.
  • Monday through Friday schedule.
  • Must be able to accommodate occasional late office hours as needed.
  • Fast-paced medical office environment supporting a two-provider ophthalmology practice.

Pay Rate: up to $34. per hour depending on experience
