We are seeking a skilled and patient-focused Ophthalmic Technician/Scribe to join our ophthalmology team. The Ophthalmic Technician will support physicians by performing comprehensive preliminary eye examinations, obtaining accurate patient histories and measurements, assisting with diagnostic testing, and providing excellent patient care throughout the visit. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, compassionate, dependable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities
Obtain and document accurate patient medical and ocular histories.
Perform preliminary ophthalmic examinations and visual acuity testing.
Measure intraocular pressure using appropriate techniques.
Perform refraction, lensometry, keratometry, and other routine ophthalmic testing as trained.
Conduct diagnostic testing such as OCT, visual fields, fundus photography, and other imaging procedures.
Administer eye drops and other medications as directed by the physician and within applicable regulations.
Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and minor office-based treatments.
Assist physicians during patient examinations and procedures with documentation and chart updates
Accurately document examination findings in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Maintain ophthalmic equipment and ensure exam rooms are clean, stocked, and ready for patients.
Educate patients regarding testing, medications, and basic pre- and post-procedure instructions.
Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and applicable clinical standards.
Provide professional, courteous, and compassionate patient service.
Perform other clinical and administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Spanish fluency is REQUIRED
Previous ophthalmic technician or ophthalmology experience preferred.
Knowledge of ophthalmic terminology, anatomy, and diagnostic testing.
Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a clinical team.
Proficiency with electronic medical records preferred.
Ability to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
