A 0.8 FTE OPS Research Technician position is available in Dr. Meiyan Jin’s laboratory in the Department of Biology at the University of Florida, Gainesville campus. The anticipated start date is between May 1 and August 1 2026, with flexibility.

Job Description:

Our lab investigates the mechanisms underlying membrane‑trafficking events—including endocytosis and autophagy—using state‑of‑the‑art techniques such as human induced pluripotent stem cells, genome editing, and fluorescent live‑cell imaging. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to ongoing projects, which may involve: 

  • Maintaining, expanding, and quality‑controlling cell lines
  • Optimizing cell‑differentiation and genome‑editing protocols 
  • Performing DNA/RNA purification, cloning, and PCR 

In addition, the technician will assist with day‑to‑day operations (e.g., preparing buffers, autoclaving media, and handling biomedical waste). Training will be provided on site; prior experience with mammalian cell culture is a strong plus. 

Expected Salary:

$20–22 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience (0.8 FTE, 32 hours / week). 

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in biology or a related field 
  • Minimum of 12 months of laboratory experience, preferably in cell‑biology research 
  • Self‑motivated, hard‑working, responsible, resilient, and capable of solving problems independently
Preferred:
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture 
  • Experience with CRISPR‑mediated genome editing
