Job Description:

Research Technician (OPS)

The Eshraghi Lab is hiring a research technician to help build a growing research program in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Immunology at the University of Florida. Our work focuses on bacterial pathogenesis and host–microbe interactions, with an emphasis on identifying mechanisms that drive disease and can be therapeutically targeted.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about science and have strong interests in microbiology and bacterial pathogenesis. We are seeking a motivated and intellectually curious individual who is eager to engage deeply with scientific questions while developing strong technical and analytical skills. Prior research experience is preferred.

This position is particularly well-suited for candidates planning to pursue research-intensive graduate programs or medical school. The technician will gain hands-on experience in molecular biology, microbiology, and biochemistry, while also receiving mentorship in experimental design, data interpretation, and scientific communication. Opportunities for authorship and presentation will be available for candidates who demonstrate initiative and strong performance.

Training in experimental planning and execution is complemented by increasing independence over time, with opportunities to contribute to project development, mentor junior trainees, and participate in scientific writing and lab management.

Job overview:
• Manage day-to-day lab operations, including preparation of stock solutions and media, equipment maintenance, and general lab organization
• Assist with and contribute to ongoing molecular biology and microbiology research projects
• Apply and develop core techniques including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, molecular cloning, DNA/protein quantification, gel electrophoresis, and Western blotting
• Contribute to independent and collaborative research efforts, with increasing responsibility over time

Expected Salary:

$16.00 / hourly

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree
• At least one year of research experience (can be undergraduate research)
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment

Preferred:

• Experience with molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, cloning, electrophoresis, Western blotting)
• Familiarity with genomic or proteomic approaches
• Demonstrated ability to learn new experimental methods and troubleshoot independently
