Summary: This position focuses on optical metrology and component testing, using hands-on lab work and statistical analysis to characterize and validate optical components such as lenses. The role combines precision measurement, hardware test, and data analysis, and works closely with cross-functional engineering teams.
Responsibilities:
Optical & Thermomechanical Metrology & Testing Set up and run optical metrology measurements using instruments such as white light interferometers, profilometers, spectrometers, optical lens meter and microscopes
Measure and characterize plastic lens’s photochromic and electrochromic and polarization properties
Measure and characterize plastic surface roughness, hardness, and surface profile of lenses and other optical components.
Measure and characterize plastic material’s thermomechanical properties Hardware Test & Validation Support hardware testing, system bring-up, and design validation of optical components and assemblies.
Develop and execute test methods for optical component testing.
Data Analysis & Measurement Quality Perform statistical analysis, correlation studies, and gauge repeatability and reproducibility (GRR) to ensure measurement accuracy.
Analyze test data with tools such as JMP, Minitab, and MS Excel, and summarize results in clear technical reports.
Collaboration & Communication Work cross-functionally with optics, hardware, and manufacturing engineers to troubleshoot issues and drive root cause analysis.
Present findings and recommendations to engineering and cross-functional teams.
Qualifications:
BS in Optical Engineering, Optical Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
2+ years of relevant experience.
Technical Skills:
Hands-on experience in optical and metrology testing.
Experience with microscopes and white light interferometry.
Experience measuring and analyzing surface roughness.
Experience measuring surface hardness and coating adhesion
Knowledge of statistical analysis methods, including correlation and GRR.
Soft Skills:
Willingness to learn new tools, methods, and technologies.
Strong communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
MS in Optical Engineering, Optical Science, Material Science, Plastic materials or related fields.
Experience in Specific Areas: Optical metrology instruments such as spectrometers, profilometers, and interferometers.
Roughness, size, and surface profiling of lenses.
Optical component testing and design validation.
Statistical tools such as JMP and Minitab.
Manufacturing test requirements in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Pay Transparency: The typical base pay for this role across the U.S. is: $55.00 - $58.00/hour. As a non-exempt position, this role will be eligible for overtime, at 1.5 times the base rate, or as required by state or local law. Final offer amounts, within the base pay set forth above, are determined by factors including your relevant skills, education, and experience.
