A day in this role
You arrive for your 12-hour rotation—either 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.—and step onto a fiber optic cable manufacturing floor that runs 24/7. You review the shift operations plan by process area, assess ware/material movement and production priorities, and redeploy operators where they’ll have the most impact. Throughout the shift, you make on-the-spot quality decisions, steward safety, and keep production on pace. As the shift wraps, you lead a thorough turnover meeting so the next team can hit the ground running.
What you’ll own
Deliver production objectives and make timely, sound quality decisions during the shift.
Execute the operations plan by process area with a focus on ware/material flow and output priorities.
Reassign staffing resources in real time to meet changing requirements.
Manage the MRR queue to maintain momentum and resolve issues quickly.
Track, evaluate, and coach individual operator performance to build capability.
Prepare and lead end-of-shift turnover meetings to ensure seamless continuity.
Ensure all product meets requirements as defined by the Plant’s Quality Management Systems (QMS).
Comply with all applicable safety procedures and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) guidelines.
Conduct month-end inventory counts as required.
Serve on the site spill team, lead the plant evacuation team, and act as a first responder.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; AS degree preferred.
At least two (2) years of progressive management/leadership experience required.
Background in manufacturing environments preferred.
Management experience in the optical fiber cabling industry preferred.
Quality- and customer-focused; comfortable interacting with customers and visitors.
Collaborative team player who supports a constructive, productive work environment.
Strong administrative aptitude, time management, and multi-tasking skills.
Composed, professional approach in high-pressure or stressful situations.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Basic computer proficiency.
Schedule and environment
This position leads one of four rotating 12-hour shifts within a 24/7 fiber optic cable manufacturing plant (7 a.m.–7 p.m. and 7 p.m.–7 a.m.).
