Optical Lab Technician (Edging Lab –Experience Required)
Compensation: $22–$30/hour (based on experience)



Job Summary


We are seeking an experienced Optical Lab Technician to manage a high-volume in-house edging lab. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with tracers, edging systems, tint, as well as a strong understanding of lens materials and coatings and can operate independently while maintaining speed, accuracy, and consistency.

Responsibilities


  • Operate Mr. Orange and Neksia edging systems and tracers efficiently in a high-volume environment
  • Edge, mount, and finish lenses for all frame types (full rim, drill mount, rimless)
  • Ensure accuracy of all jobs (PD, axis, seg height, lens orientation, etc.)
  • Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and perform routine maintenance
  • Maintain consistent turnaround times while upholding quality standards
  • Organize and prioritize daily lab workload
  • Communicate with optical staff to resolve job issues quickly
  • Track and manage lab supplies (blocking pads, tools, repair supplies, screws, nosepads, etc.)

Requirements


  • 3+ years optical lab experience (high-volume preferred)
  • Direct experience with Neksia and/or Mr. Orange systems strongly preferred
  • Direct experience with Essibox and VisionWeb systems strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of lens types, coatings, and frame styles
  • Experience with drill mounts and specialty jobs
  • High attention to detail and quality control
  • Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently and stay organized under pressure

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience in a multi-location or high-production optical environment
  • Familiarity with digital lab workflows (.OMA file transfer, remote tracing, etc.)
  • Process improvement mindset
