In this hands-on role, you will develop test methods to investigate the underlying physical effects of optical sensors systems. You will collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team on novel optical technology prototypes. You will take advantage of your experimental and data analysis skills and your comprehensive understanding of optical science. As an Optical Science Engineer, you will have the following responsibilities: All aspects of optical experiments to test optical system performance, including test setup design, bring-up, characterization, operation, debugging, data collection, and analysis Design and perform experiments to characterize optical systems Identify causal relationships between observed performance and design parameters Interpret empirical data and reconcile it with first-principles analytical and/or numerical simulations, propose design improvements based on your analysis Requirements: BS degree in Optics, Physics, Applied Physics, EE, or a related field Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and testing free-space optical systems Programming experience using MATLAB, Python, or similar tools MS or PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Optics, EE, or a related field Theoretical understanding and experimental background in optical physics Understanding of semiconductor laser sources, photodetectors, and optical measurement techniques Proficiency with optical simulation tools and techniques, including sequential and non-sequential raytracing software Experience interfacing and automating control of optical-lab instruments * Excellent communication and presentation skills and ability to work well in a multidisciplinary engineering team environment
