Under minimum supervision, the Optician will fabricate optical parts following established procedures utilizing one or more standard processes.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Hands-on Optical Fabrication
Ability to perform fabrication processes such as cleaning, grinding, polishing, and beveling
Ability to use various forms of metrology for data collection and inspection
Experience with hand-tools such as micrometer, depth gauge, and comparators
Perform routine machine cleaning and maintenance on production equipment
Part Handling, Inspection, and Identification
Read from blueprints and work instructions to determine part requirements
Clean parts using acetone and other cleaning chemicals
Identify surface quality of various optical materials
Measurement of surface roughness, figure, radius, and other opto-mechanical requirements
Data entry on computer systems

Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, angle and volume.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
