The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the jobs compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities: • Assists in the assembly, alignment, and testing of optical and mechanical components used in devices such as lasers, imaging systems, and other optical instruments. • Ensures the proper functioning and calibration of optical systems. • May collaborate with engineers to troubleshoot and resolve issues, document procedures, and contribute to the overall manufacturing and quality control processes.

The University of Rochester's Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) is looking for its next Experimental Operations Technician. We are looking for someone who is excited to learn, exceptionally reliable, and attentive to details. Here at LLE, we take pride in being a national resource for research and education in both science and technology! Our focus is on using lasers to create fusion energy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Load/unload X-Ray film and image plate cartridges used in nuclear physics experiments. • Process photographic film and image plate. • Maintain film processing equipment and chemistry. • Support the operation of various equipment and diagnostics related to laser physics experiments. • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and optical issues. • Perform regular preventative maintenance. • Maintain complex vacuum systems. • Troubleshoot equipment issues. • Qualify as a NYS Radiation Worker. • Maintain radiological containment areas. • Create and update system documentation and procedures.

Morning and Evening shift work is required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Associates degree in science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics and 1 year or equivalent combination of education and experience in a technical position required. Obtainment of Security Clearance required upon hire.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. required. • Strong mechanical aptitude preferred. • Excellent verbal and written communication preferred. • Strong interpersonal skills suitable for working in a team-based environment preferred. • Darkroom/film development experience preferred. • Experience with automated photographic film processors and/or image plate scanners preferred. • Experience with chemistry operations preferred. • Experience with radiological materials preferred. • Proficient in Microsoft Office with the ability to learn additional software preferred.
